It's Spring: The Perfect Time for Outdoor Exercise!

By Genevieve Cunningham

With spring rolling in faster than ever, many people are looking to get outside to enjoy nature. Being able to get outside is one of the best parts of the spring season. It's the time of year when we go camping, hiking, and lay out by the pool. But if you want really big benefits, you should consider taking your exercise outdoors. After a winter spent in a stuffy gym, getting outside for a workout can be incredibly refreshing. And it might be the best way to work out! If you're ready for a little change to your routine this season, take a look at why going outside may be all it takes to improve your exercise routine and your health.

It's Tougher

When you work out indoors, you're in a controlled environment. There's an air conditioner, or at least a building to block the weather. There's equipment that's regularly cleaned, floors that are cushioned and swept, and water and showers at the ready. But outdoors? Now you're exposed to the elements. If it's hot, it's just hot. If you didn't bring water, then you don't have water. If there's wind, you just run the other direction. And all of these elements can make your workout both better and more difficult. If you want more of a challenge in a natural way, there's nothing better than taking your workout outside.

You Get Double Benefits

Working out brings a ton of benefits into your life. It strengthens the muscles, improves balance, and even boosts mental health. If you also take the exercise outside, you'll get a few additional benefits. Getting outside can calm the mind and lower stress. It gives you access to fresh air and sunshine. It's good for body, mind, and soul. By combining the outdoors and exercise, you'll gain even more benefits without any extra effort.

It's Good for the Mind

Working out in the outdoors is challenging. It forces you to stick with something even when it's a little harder than usual. It forces you to set your mind on a goal and then go for it. It forces you to accept each challenge as it comes up. And these kinds of challenges are good for the mind! They make you stronger. If you like the idea of strengthening the body and mind in one workout, take it outside and enjoy the benefits.

With good weather on the horizon and the general spring atmosphere upon us, it's the perfect time to get outside for your workout routine. Run, walk, do yoga -- do whatever feels good! Get outside, move your body, and reap the benefits that come from this awesome combination.
