Move With Purpose: 3 Ways to Make Exercise More Effective
By Genevieve Cunningham
Do you move enough throughout the day? There was a time when this question was absurd. Of course you moved throughout the day. Movement was necessary -- a way of life! But the more modern our world becomes, the less likely we are to move our bodies regularly. And truthfully, this has shown itself to be true in our overall health and wellness. Obesity, heart disease, and diabetes are on the rise. Could it be because our lives no longer incorporate movement? Though there are likely many factors, movement definitely plays a part. Maybe it's time to create a shift in our lives and move with purpose. Move with the intention of improving health. If you're ready to take your health to the next level, take a look at these tips for adding purposeful movement into your day.
Move Every Day
One of the easiest ways to move with purpose is to do it every day. Make daily movement your specific purpose. It's a simple purpose, but it works. When we move every day, we build stronger muscles, maintain flexibility, and increase our energy. We might find that it's easier to stay in better moods -- which then makes sticking with the daily movement easier. It's a beneficial cycle of better health and wellness. For those who can't stand the thought of hitting the gym every day, don't worry. You don't have to hit it hard every single day; just move! Walk, stretch, play games. The more you move, the better you'll feel, so start feeling better about life today.
Move for Fun
Not everything has to be serious. If you want to take a light-hearted approach, make sure that your purpose is to have some fun! This is a great way to make sure that your exercise routine is effective. If you're having fun, you'll stick with it! Join a class that you've always wanted to try, something you look forward to doing - yoga, dance, or something else. Consider gathering friends and playing your favorite sport. Consider hiking or biking if that's your thing. Do whatever you find fun and engaging, and the better health will fall into place naturally.
Move With Others
Moving with others sometimes makes it easier. Why? Because we were meant for companionship. Other people can help us stay motivated and help hold us accountable. You can easily move with others through a local class or simply by asking a group of friends to go with you. If you hate working out alone, don't do it! Get involved in a group and have a good time with your exercise.
If we want exercise routines that feel good and work effectively, we need purpose. We need a reason to move. Make daily movement a purpose. Make fun a purpose. Make your friends a purpose! Just find a purpose that works for you, and use regular exercise to get in the best health of your life.
