Morning Rituals That Boost Mental Health - 3rd Week
By Genevieve Cunningham
The mornings are really hard for some people. Some of the population just seem to wake up with a pep in their step. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, so to speak. Others drag in the mornings, barely getting out of bed and dreading each task that has to be completed. If this is you, listen up! It might be worth making a change in your attitude and your routine, as some simple rituals in the morning may be incredibly beneficial for your mental health. Take a look at these easy rituals that may make your mornings brighter and boost your mental health.
Wake Up Earlier
Study after study has shown that those who get up earlier tend to be more productive and more content throughout the day. Why? It may be because you have more time and less of that rushed feeling in the morning. Or, it might be that your brain has more time to wake up and adjust before being thrust into daily tasks. Whatever the reason, it doesn’t mean you have to wake up before the roosters. Try setting your alarm for a simple 10 or 15 minutes early. Once you get used to this, add a few more minutes. It doesn’t take much more time to make a big difference in your mental state for the day.
Meditate
Meditation calms both the body and mind and allows for stress to leave the body. Meditating for a quick five minutes in the morning may be all you need to readjust your mind and start the day off right. Don’t forget that meditation can be frustrating as a beginner, so take it slow. If the practice makes you feel angry or irritated, you’ll be negating all of the wonderful effects.
Open the Curtain
There is nothing quite like the natural sunshine. We need the sun in order to soak in valuable Vitamin D, but the sun’s rays also provide a bit of a natural boost. Instead of relying on your artificial overhead light, open some curtains and invite in the morning. While the first few times might feel slightly abrasive, it won’t be long until you’re craving that morning sun.
Getting your day started off on the right foot can make all of the difference. And a day started well can do wonders for your mental health. Set yourself up for success by adding these quick and easy morning rituals into your life. With a little attention and some personal TLC, you’ll be feeling better than ever in no time.
