Empowering Tips for Lowering Body Fat

By Genevieve Cunningham

When most people say that they want to lose weight, they’re actually saying they’d like to sculpt away body fat. Everyone has some excess fat … it’s actually necessary to carry around some fat on the body. But when there is too much, it can begin to damage both physical and mental health. It’s at this point that people look into ways to drop the fat and build muscle instead. But how can this be done? If it were easy, everyone would do it, so expect it to take some work. But with the right attitude and some helpful tips, you may be able to burn off fat and show off a lean physique underneath. To get started, take a look at these easy but empowering tips.

Do Not Drink Your Calories

Almost everyone is guilty of this. We drink teas, coffees (unicorn frap, anyone?), sodas, juices, and all sorts of flavored drinks throughout the day. If we were to add up the number of calories that we actually drink instead of eat, it would probably be alarming! Instead, switch to water immediately. Water contains zero calories, which means you’ll already drastically decrease caloric intake. But it also helps to flush fat from cells, remove toxins from the body, speed up digestion, and keep you feeling fuller longer. This is a powerful but simple tip, so get some H2O and get to sippin'.

Alternate Weights and Cardio

Some people are strictly weights people. They like to hit the weight room, do a few reps, and then leave. Other people are strictly cardio people. They might jump on a treadmill or exercise bike, but never step foot in the weight room. If you really want to burn fat, it’s important to balance both of these workouts. Get in some moderate cardio - running, walking, swimming, biking - at least four times a week. On the flip side, make sure that you’re lifting challenging weights before or after your cardio session (or alternate days). This burns calories, builds muscle, and speeds up metabolism faster than sticking to the same exercise every day.

Spice It Up

Many people swear by the power of hot and spicy foods. It’s thought that foods such as cayenne, chili peppers, and jalapenos speed up metabolism and cause faster calorie burning. Is there any truth to it? It’s certainly true that these foods can cause a rise in temperature, so they may be worth a shot. Just add them to one meal a day, and balance them out with the previous two tips in order to see the biggest and fastest results.

Burning fat is where it’s at. It’s usually the real goal of all people who want to lose weight. It’s not the number on the scale that matters so much, but rather that body fat percentage and the way we look in our clothes. To kickstart your fat burning capabilities, use these tips every day and melt the fat away for good.
