A Chiropractic Guide to the Holidays
By Brandi Goodman
The holiday season leads to pain if you aren't careful. Whether you pull a muscle trying to string up Christmas lights or start feeling bloated and ill because you're not exercising or choosing healthy foods, the discomfort that comes with the season can put a damper on your days. Follow a chiropractic guide so you can get through the holidays pain-free.
Keep Up Your Exercise
You need to maintain an exercise routine to help keep your strength up. You're less likely to get injured if you have a strong core that can help you keep your balance when you're on that ladder trying to get the house decorated. It's also beneficial for beating that bloat and fighting against all the unnecessary calories you may be consuming at holiday parties.
Stay Hydrated
Your joints need proper hydration if you hope to keep them feeling flexible and well. You'll be able to get through the season and all its associated tasks if you're well hydrated. Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day, filled with 8 ounces each.
Get Help
Don't try to tackle all of the holiday tasks on your own. When a ladder is involved especially, you should have some help. You can make your way up the device to hang some lights while the person below watches out for you. Any misstep can cause a serious fall if you aren't careful. Plus, trying to get everything done alone can put a lot of stress on your body. Get help and the work will get done faster.
Watch Your Posture
Whether you're sitting down to wrap presents, standing in the kitchen to cook, or tackling any other holiday chore, it's wise to watch your posture. Sitting and standing up straight can help you avoid some serious back pain that comes from slouching, leaning, or hunching.
See the Chiropractor
Chiropractic care can help you start your holiday season right. It ensures your body is in the best condition possible to start tackling those holiday tasks. If a subluxation or joint restriction is in place, it can be difficult to utilize your full range of motion, and may lead to more frequent injuries. Get an adjustment and have these restrictions corrected so they're not a worry.
Some chiropractic guidance can help you get through the holidays with less pain than usual. Skip the discomfort of the season and enjoy your time instead.
