Whatever It Takes to Lengthen Life Is What We Do

By Tom Herrin

There are few people who would not like to live longer.   If they find any real enjoyment in life, the notion of living longer is music to the ears, and most would perk up at the thought that they may be able to have a real impact if they could.  For years, many people spend their lives so busy making a living that they had to accept what came their way.  That is, they worked hard and had little time to spend seeking the best things for their overall health.  Things are quite different today.  We have much better information available to us that can help to improve both quality and length of life.

Eat the Right Things

With so much nutritional information printed on packaged or prepared foods, we have little reason to make poor choices.  If we have a desire to eat well, we can.  Selecting foods that are healthier is just a matter of planning and understanding what effect each has on our bodies.  Avoid fried foods and too much sugar.  Good proteins, plenty of fruits and vegetables, and healthy fats should be included in any kind of good diet.  An adequate amount of fiber can help as well.

Get Quality Sleep

A lot of us tend to skimp on sleep too often.  We try to cram too many things into our schedules and do more than may be reasonable.  As a result, we fall short on sleep and long on stress.  The right amount of sleep each day is something that protects our health.  Without it, we may have problems with blood pressure, emotional health, and immune system.  Establishing a good sleep routine can help to head any of that off and promote better health in general.  Avoiding heavy meals later in the day, or too much exercise, can also keep us from sleeping well.

Be Happy

We need to be in a good mood as much as possible.  When we laugh, we lift others and not just ourselves.  Laughter is believed to lower stress and boost immunity.  It is a natural way to lower blood pressure.  It is thought to increase the number of T-cells.  If we are serious about increasing our longevity, we may be able to do so by educating ourselves and developing a plan for change.  Of course, following our plan will be a big part, too.
