When Stress Takes Over, It's Time to Fight Back
By Sandy Schroeder
Our culture generates way too much stress, and we tend to absorb much of it. Finding time to keep work flowing and take care of a family can be a demanding order. The moment we get a job deadline finished, some new family crisis pops up and absorbs the rest of the day. No wonder we look a little stressed.
If this sounds all too familiar, you may want to find some good support to lower the tension and field the challenges. Chiropractic may be one of those resources that proves to be invaluable, providing calmness and a fresh focus.
See Your Chiropractor
Stop by The Joint Chiropractic clinic near you to get to know your new health, wellness and fitness doctor. The Joint’s chiropractors help countless people find their way through the health maze every day.
Your chiropractor will want to talk about your stress issues, and any other pain you are having. Your daily routine and health history will also be reviewed as your chiropractor explains how spinal health works. The central nervous system that controls almost everything we do is housed in the spine. Keeping that brain-to-body communication network in shape may also be a great way to improve overall health.
A gentle targeted spinal adjustment may ease aches and pains, and generate a new sense of well-being with more alertness, better sleep, and less stress. Weekly 15-minute spinal adjustments often keep the benefits coming and provide a good way to monitor overall progress as you try out some new stress reductions.
Get outdoors a lot - Nothing calms me down more than stepping out on my patio to feel the breeze and check my plants. Whenever stress begins to build, step outside for a brief walk, or just find a quiet place to sit in the sun and reflect on life.
Breathe deeply - Find a quiet place to sit and take five deep breaths, letting your belly move forward as you breathe in. Then picture all of that stress leaving your body as you breathe out. Repeat this simple exercise whenever you need it at work or at home.
Do a moving meditation - Try a yoga or tai chi class, or a quiet walk to let go of stress. With each movement or step, you may feel the stress letting go and fading away. I find a walk to my local park can offload a whole day of stress in about 15 minutes. I usually return smiling.
