By Stepy Kamei
Those first few moment after waking up can be so tough, can't they? You're warm and cozy under the covers, not a care in the world -- but you know you're going to have to get up and face the day, even though you'd rather stay right where you are. If you find you have a hard time getting out of bed each morning, you're not alone; most people can relate to the feeling. However, there are ways you can build a routine for yourself to make the morning a little easier, or even something to look forward to. Keep on reading to pick up a few tips and tricks on how to get the most out of your morning routine so you're ready to take on the day ahead.
Just Say No to the Phone
It can be so tempting to check your emails and social media first thing in the morning -- but this may just be a way to start the day off on the wrong foot. We all know how easy it is to get sucked into our phones, so it's ultimately best to commit to leaving the phone alone until you're ready to leave the house. You may find you have more time to get ready in the morning, leaving you less likely to feel rushed and hurried as you head off to work.
If you set an alarm on your phone, another good idea is to not utilize the snooze button at all, no matter how tempting it may be. It'll mess with your body's internal clock and actually leave you feeling more drowsy than if you had just gotten up right away. This is another great reason to just leave the phone alone first thing in the morning, except to turn off the alarm once.
Let There Be Light
The body depends on seeing light to help itself wake up naturally, due to its circadian rhythms. Make sure to open up your blinds as soon as you wake up so your body can soak in some natural light. If it's a cloudy day, turn on the lights in each room you walk into so you're still signaling to your body that it's time to wake up and start the day.
Try Aromatherapy
Smell can have a surprisingly strong impact on the body, so it couldn't hurt to give aromatherapy a try. Whether you use an essential oil diffuser, a spray mist, or a candle, consider waking up to an invigorating scent such as mint, citrus, or patchouli, to get the body energized and awakened.
