Meet The Doctors

Dr. Bethaney L. Bradshaw, D.C. is a Chiropractor at The Point

Dr. Bethaney L. Allison was born and raised in Tazewell, Virginia. She completed her undergraduate education at Virginia Tech where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. She moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina in 2010 to pursue her education in chiropractic. In 2013, she earned her Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina. After receiving her National Board certification and state licensure in July of 2013, she began practicing in Greenville, South Carolina.

Dr. Bethaney started her chiropractic career with The Joint in 2013 and in 2015 took some time off to explore other options in chiropractic care. After a little over a year of soul searching she returned to The Joint because the philosophy and values of The Joint were exactly what she believed about chiropractic care. Dr. Bethaney became a chiropractor in hopes to improve people’s quality of life and she strongly believes the best way to do that is through routine and affordable chiropractic care.

Whether she’s cruising the streets of the Carolinas on her motorcycle or riding four-wheelers in the mountains of Virginia, Dr. Bethaney enjoys the great outdoors and motorsports. She fell in love with all the great state of South Carolina has to offer and while she may be a Virginia girl born and raised, she’s a Carolina girl at heart.

Dr. Justin Schutrumpf, D.C. is a Chiropractor at The Point

Dr. Justin Schutrumpf -- it’s OK to call him Dr. Justin -- joined The Joint Chiropractic family of healthcare providers in 2019 as a doctor in the Spartanburg location, but he has been a patient since 2007. A graduate of Metropolitan State University Denver with a degree in biology, he got his doctorate of chiropractic from Life University.

“The thing I like best about being in chiropractic is helping folks crush life,” he says. “I love helping people when they are told they have no other options.”

Dr. Justin was raised in Boulder, Colo., at the eastern foot of the Rocky Mountains. He worked in Atlanta before landing in Spartanburg.

He and his wife, who is the daughter of a chiropractor, have two daughters, along with a dog named Charlotte and a cat named Callie. In his spare time, Dr. Justin says he enjoys rucking, fitness, eating barbecue, grilling, cycling, doing DIY projects, “raising warrior princesses and taking my wife out on a hot date.”

He says he knew chiropractic was the right choice for him when he was jealous of a friend whose father was Dr. Justin’s first chiropractor. “It was when my best friend decided to go to school and follow his father’s footsteps and I was jealous,” he says. “But instead, we both chased our dreams.”

“I love working here,” Dr. Justin says. “I love being able to help people providing high quality chiropractic care while working for an honest company that takes great care of its employees.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Justin says the staples of his life are always stocked in his refrigerator: “Meats, hot sauce, eggs and cheese.”

If he could bring together any four people from history together for the dinner party of his dreams, Dr. Justin would include retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, cartoon scientist Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty, artist Jim Winters, and Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee.

The coolest thing Dr. Justin has done was participate in more than a dozen GORUCK endurance events -- of 6,12, 24 and 48 hours -- “learning teamwork with special forces veterans and building bonds with awesome people.”

Dr. Tristan Urban, D.C. is a Chiropractor at The Point

Dr Urban was born and raised in Bavaria, Germany (Regensburg 1 hour NE of Munich) and attended and graduated Physical Therapy school before relocating to the US in 2012. He graduated from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, S.C. in June 2022. His chiropractic techniques include Diversified, Gonstead, and Thompson. Dr. Urban's first and only job so far as a chiropractor is The Joint in the Greenville- Spartanburg S.C. area. He joined The Joint 8/1/22. He says the best thing about being in the chiropractic field is being a part of the patient’s recovery, witnessing the progress as they progress through care, and making a personal connection with the patient.

Dr. Urban's hobbies include traveling, hiking, trail running, yoga, and growing food. Sarah Primeau is his spouse and together they have 2 kids, Ryder 11 and Grace 9 and two pets, King (cat) and Myles (dog) who love and hate each other. Some foods Dr. Urban always need to have in the house at all times are, coffee, garlic, cheese, and pasta. The perfect dinner party would have to include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Jordan, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Charlize Theron, and Leonardo DiCaprio (some of my favorite celebrities that seem humble, grounded and dominate their fields). Dr. Urban says "one of the coolest most memorable things I’ve ever done was hiking over the alps from Munich, Germany to Venice, Italy in 28 days."

Dr. Pamela Owens, D.C. is a Chiropractor at The Point

Dr. Pamela Owens (Dr. Pam) is a native of Wilmington, NC. She graduated with honors from Logan Chiropractic College in 1989. She is Board Certified in Acupuncture through the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture. Over many years in practice, she has received numerous post-graduate certifications including Manipulation Under Anesthesia, Spinal Rehabilitation, Laser & Electrical/Auricular Acupuncture (weight loss/smoking cessation), Functional Medicine, and testing for environmental and dietary toxicity.

In 2016, Dr. Pam authored the book: “Poisoned! What You Didn’t Know About Heavy Metals Is Killing You!” Environmental Toxic Heavy Metals may be the hidden reason you feel sick. This book was written to help patients understand that there is a lot more to the reasons why they may be ill that never get discussed or tested thru conventional medicine.

After graduating in 1989, Dr. Pam went to Indianapolis to practice with Dr. Sue Morter for a year then returned to St. Louis, MO, and worked for Dr. Ken Gilbertson for 2 years. From here, she started her own practices in St. Louis: Kingston Chiropractic Center and Chiropractic & Rehan Center. After 13 years, she sold them both and moved back to the beach. She then started a practice in Ocean Isle Beach, NC: At the Beach Chiropractic Health Center, and after 18 successful years, she sold it and retired in 2020.

She joined The Joint in January 2021 and enjoys working with everyone!

Dr. Pam says the best thing about being a Doctor in the Chiropractic field after all these years, is the number of people she has helped without medication. There have truly been some blessings!

Dr. Pam’s hobbies include photography, golf, exercising, reading, gardening, going to the beach to enjoy her second home, and riding the golf cart around! Her first college degree was in Photography back in the stone ages! She was an avid golfer and lived in Sea Trail Plantation in Sunset Beach, NC on the golf course where she managed to sneak away regularly to play!

She is married to her partner Angie Brooks of Greenville, SC where they have two cats and a dog that are spoiled rotten!

The one thing in the refrigerator that she must have is half and half creamer for her coffee!

One of the coolest things Dr. Pam has done is win Longest Drive in a big golf tournament for the women’s division Sea Trail Sunset Beach, NC… also.. when she practiced in St. Louis, she treated Joe Walsh of the Eagles prior to a concert there!

Dr. Josh Black, D.C. is a Chiropractor at The Point

Dr. Josh Black joined The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2022 when he began serving residents at the Anderson, Spartanburg, and The Point clinics. He relishes the opportunity to serve the community with work that he finds so fulfilling.

“My favorite thing about being in the chiropractic field is helping people discover their body's innate ability to heal, and helping people become the best possible versions of themselves through the promotion of total wellness,” he says. “I am a people person at heart and I enjoy making connections with individuals in my community. I love each and every opportunity to meet someone new and learn about what's going on in their life, even if it's only during the span of a 5-minute visit!”

A native of North Carolina, Dr. Josh, as his patients call him, grew up in Charlotte and later settled in South Carolina.

He met his girlfriend, Patricia, in chiropractic school. She is from Bayamon, Puerto Rico and loves to surf, but now that Dr. Josh gave her a snowboard she likes hitting the slopes too. They have a Doberman pinscher named Doby. “She may look imposing, but she is the biggest sweetheart in the world, and the true definition of a ‘velcro dog,’” he says.

After 23 years playing baseball, Dr. Josh hung up the spikes and now enjoys golfing, playing video games, reading, and snowboarding in the winter.

A graduate of North Greenville University with a bachelor’s degree in health science, Dr. Josh specialized in kinesiology. He earned a Doctorate at Sherman College of Chiropractic in Boiling Springs, S.C.

“I always knew that I wanted to help people (my mom is a registered nurse, so that was instilled in me early on), but after doing some shadowing and being around the medical community for a little while in high school, I knew that route was not for me,” he says. “I had two amazing chiropractic influences in my life while growing up in Charlotte. The father of a lifelong friend and teammate owned his own practice, yet was at every baseball game, and a sports chiropractor in the area helped me get back on the baseball field when traditional methods (orthopedists, physical therapists, etc.) could not help me. At that point, it was a no-brainer for me and I have not looked back since!” One of his most memorable situations as a chiropractor was giving an adjustment to an infant for the first time. “Watching how she went from fussy and irritated to calm and relaxed was something I will never forget.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

When you look in Dr. Josh’s refrigerator you’re likely to find two favorites. “I am a huge milk guy so I usually have a gallon of milk on deck,” he says. “I also recently discovered mayochup, which is exactly what it sounds like -- a mix of mayo and ketchup -- and it is the bomb, so I usually have a bottle of that as well.”

If he created a guest list of famous people for his ideal dinner party, Dr. Josh would invite former MLB player Larry Wayne "Chipper" Jones Jr., actor Tom Cruise, “an overall interesting (and weird) guy,” and comedian Bill Burr.

A high point of Dr. Josh’s life was walking across the commencement stage for his Chiropractic degree. “After so much hard work and blood, sweat, and tears, finally getting my diploma and putting that ‘DC’ behind my name was amazing.”

A big fan of futuristic, sci-fi material, Dr. Josh says the book 1984 stuck with him since high school. “The overall message of that book is pretty cool.”

Some of his best advice came from his father. When Dr. Josh would get upset about striking out or making an error in baseball his dad would say, “What matters most is what happens next.”

For others, Dr. Josh has the following advice: “Control the controllables. The past is unchangeable and the future hasn't happened yet; stay in the present.” He likes a similar quote from President Theodore Roosevelt: "Do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are."

Dr. Michael Curtin joined The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2022 when he began serving residents in Greenville, where he relishes the opportunity to do the work he finds so rewarding.

“Adjusting patients is the best thing, especially when there is an enormous amount of relief following a dramatic release of energy bound up in a stubborn subluxation,” he says. “The second best thing has to be the reactions people have to being adjusted. My favorite reactions are when people laugh out loud and out of control.”

Dr. Mike, as his patients call him, grew up on Long Island in Amityville, N.Y. “I had migraine headaches, probably from being around so many neurotic New Yorkers,” he says. “Finally, after all else failed, a friend suggested that I see a chiropractor and that was it.”

He previously worked in Chicago, San Francisco, Marin County, Sonoma, and Vashon Island, Wash., which is a 25-minute ferry ride from Seattle.

Dr. Mike’s wife, Melissa, is a writer and they have a son and a daughter. “My sources tell me that her chances of becoming a saint are very good after having to put up with me and our two teenagers.”

The family has three chocolate Labrador retrievers. “Petey is an old man, very sweet, while Mack and Odie are 80 pounds each and full of energy.”

They also have two cats, Tiger and Jasper. “They sleep all day and run around the house all night long.”

Dr. Mike collects coins and crystals and he likes to go trap shooting. “I'm not very good, but it's fun to try anyway.”

After earning several associate’s degrees from Biscayne Paramedical Institute, Stony Brook University in New York, and Suffolk Community College in Seiden, N.Y., Dr. Mike graduated with a Doctorate in Chiropractic from National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Ill.

“From the age of 10 until 28 I had debilitating migraine headaches,” he says. “All I could do was lie down in a dark room and wait for it to run its course. Often, I would vomit as well, and the headache could last two or three days. A friend suggested that I see a chiropractor and I did. From the very first adjustment I never vomited again and the headaches would only last a few hours. I knew then that this is what I was meant to do.”

One of Dr. Mike’s most memorable experiences as a chiropractor was providing treatment for two boys, ages 5 and 8. “They had been playing in the living room, hanging off the furniture and dropping on their heads,” he says. “One of the boys began to complain of neck pain and the mother noticed that his left eye was crossed toward his nose. During the exam, I found a dramatic upper cervical subluxation. After his first adjustment, his eye returned to its normal position and his neck pain resolved after a few more visits. I am always amazed at the power of chiropractic as well as little boys' ability to find new and creative ways to get into mischief.”

Dr. Mike really likes the staff at The Point clinic. “I like the fast pace in the office and the variety of patients.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

You can always find ginger ale in Dr. Mike’s refrigerator because he likes the taste and the carbonation.

If he could choose four famous guests for the ideal dinner party, Dr. Mike would invite former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch and comedians Aubrey Plaza, Norm Macdonald, and Jonathan Winters, “because ALL HELL would break loose.”

The coolest experience Dr. Mike ever had was hitting a walk-off home run to win a men’s softball game in Oakland. “What made it great is not that I'm a home run hitter, but rather because I was in an amazingly positive headspace,” he says. “It was the realization that I can control my thoughts and, therefore, my emotions which leads to a very powerful place from which anything can be accomplished.”

One of his favorite books is Shogun. “It showed me the meaning of honor, integrity, self-respect, and self-sacrifice.”

If Dr. Mike wrote an autobiography, the title would be Where did I put my glasses? “I can't read if I don't have them on and I can't walk if I do have them on. So, I take them off and can't see where they are. It’s the story of my life.”

Years ago, Dr. Mike received a meaningful piece of advice from Rocket Rick, a man who trained him in carpentry: “Always look busy on a union job site. To do that, walk fast and look straight ahead with your eyes downward.”

Dr. Mike’s favorite advice for others is to “Follow your excitement; it leads to your purpose.”

Dr. Patricia Acevedo, D.C. is a Chiropractor at The Point

Dr. Patricia Acevedo became part of The Joint Chiropractic family of local healthcare providers in 2023 when she joined the Spartanburg and Anderson clinic locations, where she continues the work she finds so fulfilling.

“I just love helping others be their best and happiest selves while also facilitating them in reaching their maximum potential and performance doing what they love most,” she says. “I love meeting new people and helping them heal from the inside, which benefits both the individual and society. When you make a difference in a person’s life through chiropractic, they in turn extend that invitation to whoever they talk to. My aim is to spread that love, healing, and self-care in the world.”

Dr. Patricia, as her patients call her, grew up in Puerto Rico. “La Isla del Encanto,” she says. “I would not want it any other way.”

Her husband, Josh Black, is also a chiropractor. The couple met at finishing school. They have a doberman named Doby who loves to hike and cuddle. “We're each other’s emotional support.”

Dr. Patricia enjoys nature in any way possible, including hiking and snowboarding. Working out is her favorite form of self-care for stress relief, and she enjoys traveling, particularly to Puerto Rico, “where I love to spend my time at the beach.” After completing a bachelor of science degree in biology at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, Dr. Patricia earned a Doctorate at Sherman College of Chiropractic in Boiling Springs, S.C.

“Since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to study something related to healthcare,” she says. “My dad is a medical doctor and was one of my biggest role models. As I grew up, I noticed the fact that traditional medicine tends to cover the symptoms rather than address the cause. I did not really agree with solving everything with a pill; I was more aligned with making improvements to your health to prevent disease. My decision was confirmed when I witnessed my mother’s journey. She suffered from seven different facial palsies and no pharmaceuticals would help her, but chiropractic did!” O

ne of Dr. Patricia’s most meaningful experiences as a chiropractor is “seeing how people react to adjustments; for example, some laugh and others jump, but just being part of their healing journey is always memorable.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Cheese and coffee are two things Dr. Patricia always has on hand. “Cheese, because I love snacking; coffee, because, well, I need to wake up in the mornings, but also, the taste. I just love it.”

If she could plan the ideal dinner party including four famous guests, Dr. Patricia would invite:

Bob Marley - “Because he is a great musician who understands true ‘riches’”

Johnny Depp - “For all his talents – singing and amazing acting roles”

Amelia Earhart - “A true trailblazer for us females”

BJ Palmer - “To learn from the ‘Father of Chiropractic’ himself”

“A meditation retreat in India was the greatest and most gratifying thing I can remember up to this moment in my life,” Dr. Patricia says. “Feeling the purity of nature while meditating and doing breathwork was just mind-blowing.”

When Dr. Patricia attended a seminar led by chiropractor Dr. Lou Corleto, she received a copy of Life's Golden Ticket by Brendon Burchard. “This book motivates healing from past traumas and fosters the understanding that each one of us have our own journey,” she says. “It definitely taught me some big lessons.”
