Meet The Doctors

Dr. Jeffery Touchet joined The Joint Chiropractic team of local chiropractors in 2015 with his arrival at the Lexington clinic location. He earned his doctorate of chiropractic from Life College in Marietta, Ga.

“What I like most about being in the chiropractic field is seeing a patient’s quality of life improve, be it increased potential when exercising, better work/life performance, walking without pain, or concentrating without headaches,” he says. “I love the fact that patients entrust the health of their family and friends to my care.”

He and wife Sydni have five children, a cat, a dog, and plenty of fish in the aquarium.

In the spare time that he has, Dr. Touchet enjoys the cinema, watching ice hockey, playing video games, cooking and trying different cuisines.

“I originally decided to become a healing practitioner while in high school after a field trip to Life University’s College of Chiropractic,” Dr. Touchet says. “A year later, I was a new Christian and realized that I had been called to help people through the wonderful gift of chiropractic.”

Dr. Touchet grew up in Marietta, and previously worked in Columbia and Irmo, but he loves where he’s at: “The Joint Lexington provides a convenient location for so many Midlands communities and I get to interact with a wide variety of people day to day that have such interesting lives and health goals.

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Touchet says the one thing he always keeps handy in the refrigerator is Duke’s Mayonnaise. “From sandwiches to burgers to salad dressings, it’s a must have,” he says.

The coolest thing he has ever done is snorkel along the Great Barrier Reef. “It was amazing seeing such diversity of sea life along with the peace of being so far out in the ocean,” he says.

Dr. Jeffery Touchet II Awarded 2021 Joint DC of the Year

This award recognizes an exceptional DC who consistently performs above average on key performance metrics, follows operating standards and shows enthusiasm and passion for the business, brand and The Joint’s core values.

“Dr. Jeff is the Clinic Director for Lexington but plays an indispensable role in all four Columbia clinics. When a DC is needed, Dr. Jeff will volunteer. He has even been known to fill in as a Wellness Coordinator when no one was available! The success of the clinic and patient experience are what matters most to him. He has great rapport with patients and staff and can reason with individuals who seem to be past the point of understanding. He helps install window clings after hours, assists with IT challenges, and supports the other staff members in any way he can. Dr. Jeff is the kind of talented, supportive, professional DC that we want working in every clinic. To him, it's not just a job, it's his mission to support our mission.”

Dr. Kayla Cooper has had a wide reach as a member of The Joint Chiropractic team since joining the staff in March 2019; she works out of several different locations, including Forest Acres, Killian Crossing, Harbison and Lexington.

She majored in biology and earned a minor in chemistry at Presbyterian College in Clinton before getting her doctorate of chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic Florida.

“The thing I love about being in the chiropractic field is being able to offer all people help regardless of anything else; everyone with a spine living in earth’s gravity is a great candidate for an excellent chiropractic patient,” she says. “It’s also gratifying to help with major current crisis, specifically the care of our military members and veterans and those who seek musculoskeletal pain relief through opioids. These populations of people are primed to be taken care of by excellent chiropractors. In doing so, our country will be healthier and have better posture.”

A product of Lexington, Dr. Cooper worked previously in Irmo and Orangeburg. In her spare time she loves traveling, fishing, going to the beach, and relaxing with friends and family, including husband Tyler, their two sons, and a German short-haired pointer named Rambo.

She had chiropractic ingrained in her at an early age.

“I was born in Iowa, less than an hour away from the oldest and first chiropractic college, Palmer,” Dr. Cooper says. “As my sister and I moved around with our family, our mother would always take us to see the chiropractor no matter where we lived, and she would call around looking for a ‘Palmer doc.’ So I knew that if I was going to become the ‘family chiropractor’ that my family always envisioned, I would go to Palmer.

“After college, I was unsure what to do, and was enrolled into the RN program at Midlands Tech. I realized one day that I wouldn’t be an awesome nurse or MD because I am very emotional and not good at bad news -- or bodily fluids. It was the second summer after I graduated from Presbyterian College that I started chiropractic school at Palmer in Florida. ... It was a perfect fit for me and I loved it.”

In her current role, she is able to practice where she grew up.

“I thoroughly enjoy being able to treat people from all sides of Columbia and enjoy being able to explore different sides of town as well,” she says.

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Cooper says the one thing she always keeps in her refrigerator is filtered water “because water is the most important thing you can have.”

If she could have any four people from history at a fantasy dinner party, Dr. Cooper says she would include chiropractic pioneer BJ Palmer, Hippocrates, media mogul Oprah Winfrey, and baseball player Jim Abbott.

“Palmer developed this fine profession we call chiropractic, and Hippocrates was the father of modern medicine, so I would love to have a scholarly discussion with them about the current state of health and healthcare in the world,” she says. “Oprah is one of the most influential figures of my lifetime. I have watched her since I knew how to watch a television, and her journey as a woman in a man’s world is one that profoundly inspires me.

“As for Jim Abbott, I had his baseball care when I was a young girl, and the idea that he can become a major league pitcher with only one hand is very inspirational; what an example to the world that you can reach your dreams no matter your physical limitations.”

The coolest thing she has ever done, she says, “was creating two brand new humans.”

“Outside of that, participating in a 10-day clinic abroad in the West Indies was the coolest thing I’ve done. I had the privilege of being selected to go to an island called Bequia -- the second island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines -- to treat the population with chiropractic care,” Dr. Cooper says. “The whole island is 7 square miles and economically categorized as third world. The people were so excited that we were there, and we went to all corners of the island and every school on the island.

“Treating so many kids was the highlight for me. Watching them and their teachers and parents enjoy the benefits of chiropractic, which they do not typically have access to, was a real life-changing experience. The pure joy and happiness that exuded from the population on Bequia is something I try to carry with me all the time.

“And one of the bars had whale vertebra as bar stools. Coolest thing I have ever seen.”

Dr. Chucky Jordan was born and raised in Mullins, SC. Dr Jordan served in the US Army from September 1998 - February 2004. He also attended Keiser University, Port St Lucie, FL, earning his degree in Sport Medicine in the year 2011. Dr. Jordan also attended Logan University, in Chesterfield Missouri, graduating in April 2015, and earned his Master’s in Nutrition and Huiman Performance in April 2019. His first job was working at Prime Care of the Lower Pee Dee, in Lake City, SC. He later opened BioSpine Health and Wellness in Lake City, SC in August 2016.

A hobby of his is riding motorcycles, but only when others are not around, he likes to relax at home and watch Family Guy. A guilty pleasure of his and one thing that must stay stocked in the house is Butter Pecan Ice cream. Specifically, Breyers Brand! His perfect dinner party would consist of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille Oneal, and Bill Gates. All of them have performed at the highest level and are great minds at business. The coolest thing he has done is serving his country and raising three incredible young men.
