Fall Yard Care Tips From Chiropractors

By: Brandi Swieter

While the fall colors may look pretty, many people don’t feel that way about them when they’re in the yard ready to get some raking done. Raking is just one common chore to handle in the autumn months that can take a toll on the back and body. Cleaning the gutters makes it onto that list as well. With a few yard care tips from chiropractors, homeowners can do a better job of keeping their bodies in ideal condition while they’re completing these tasks.

Choose the Right Size Rake

Many people grab a rake off the shelf without considering its size. A shorter female would not do well holding a long rake if she’s the one doing the yard work. A taller male would have a difficult time bending down to hold a shorter rake if he’s the one outside. The right size makes a big difference when it comes to raking leaves if people don’t want their bodies bent and twisted into pain.

Don’t Rake All at Once

Some homeowners attempt to get outside and rake, rake, rake until there are no leaves left on the ground. This can put serious strain on the body and leave a person feeling overworked and exhausted. It is best not to rake all at once; instead, take breaks between sessions to stretch, get a drink of water, and even sit down for a few minutes and get some rest. It’ll ensure the body remains in top shape to continue handling the job and doesn’t get burnt out as quickly.

Wear Safety Gear

It may not be necessary for raking, but cleaning the gutters requires safety equipment to be worn. No one should get up on a ladder to clean out the gunk from their roof without having on a helmet and some gloves, at the very least. Gloves could even get worn during raking sessions to prevent splinters and blisters.

Anyone still suffering from back pain or stiff joints after handling yard care should seek the help of a chiropractor. Visit The Joint Chiropractic to discuss the site of the pain with the doctor and determine what type of adjustment or service may be needed. The facility stays open late so people can come in after their chores are finished to get the care they need.
