Enhancing Your Happiness This Spring Season
By Brandi Goodman
You would think that springtime would automatically instill a sense of happiness in people. Winter is coming to a close and warmer weather and fresher air is felt all around. People who suffered from winter depression may still find it difficult to enjoy the spring season. With a few methods for enhancing happiness, those who struggle can experience improved mood and well-being.
Exercise Outdoors
Many people tend to stay inside more often when cold weather comes. As soon as the spring air arrives, it's important to get outdoors for some exercise. Go for a walk around the park or even just in your neighborhood. Enjoying the sunshine for a while can drastically enhance mood. Exercise also releases endorphins that will provide a good feeling.
Have a Picnic
The foods you eat in the spring and summer tend to differ from what you enjoy in the winter. Finger foods, pasta salads, and fruits are on the menu more often. Pack up a lunch with some of your favorites included and take it to a park for a picnic. Whether you go alone or with a friend, this is a great way to increase your happiness in the spring. Make having a picnic a weekly activity that you can look forward to enjoying.
Wake Up Earlier
Because the sun may start shining sooner in the day, you might notice the brightness outdoors early in the morning hours. This may cause you to wake up earlier and gives you even more opportunity to enjoy activities throughout the day. The longer daytime hours provide time in your day to get outside and enjoy something you like. More daylight is also more likely to make you feel awake, alive, and happy than the darkness and early bedtimes do.
Start Spring Cleaning
One of the biggest ways to improve your mood is to start spring cleaning. Opening up the windows and enjoying the fresh air while you purge your home of accumulated junk can offer a great feeling. Many people like to spring clean because it gives them the chance to free themselves of unnecessary items while feeling like the new season can bring about change for their lives.
The spring season may automatically provide joy for some people, but it may take work for others to get to that level of happiness. By putting forth some effort, even those who feel depressed and upset throughout the cold months especially can start to come out of their shell and enjoy life for a while. Try one or more of these methods to boost happiness and improve your mental health.
