Stress Tricks to Try in These Situations

By Brandi Goodman

No matter what situation you find yourself in, it's wise to have a stress trick to try to help ease your mind. Different situations may require different techniques to help you lower your blood pressure, clear your head, and feel better able to handle whatever it is you're going through.

Stressed at Work? Jot Down Positives

When you're in the middle of your workday, it isn't always easy to de-stress. You don't have access to the things you do at home. What you can do, however, is keep a mini notebook in your pocket or at your desk and use it to write down some positives. Focusing on the negatives of your day will only lead to more stress. Write down a positive thought instead to help reduce some of your hard feelings.

Stressed at Home? Take a Walk

If you're stressed out because of a situation going on at home, it's wise to go for a walk. It gets you out of the house for a bit and away from whatever situation is causing you such stress. A walk around the block may be all you need to calm down and be able to come back into the house feeling more like yourself.

Feeling Stressed and Tense? Dance it Out

If you're feeling tension in your body because of your stress, you really need to stretch, exercise, and loosen up your body. Dancing is a great option. Let the music lift your spirits as you dance around and let the tension flow out of you.

Too Stressed to Sleep? Try Reading

Feeling stressed at night and having your mind racing isn't going to let you get any shut-eye. Try reading for a while so you can focus on the words of the page and immerse yourself in someone else's life. It's a great distraction that can help you feel tired enough to finally get the sleep you need.

Stressed With the News? Shut Off Social Media

It's easy to feel stressed and overwhelmed with all of the bad news you see on your social media feeds and on the news. Shut off social media and find something else to occupy your time so you don't keep looking at all of the depressing information. Watch a funny movie instead or get outside for some fresh air. It's wise to take regular social media breaks so you aren't overloading your brain with all the negativity of the world.

Stress should always be a consideration. No matter if the situation is big or small, even a minor stressor can put a huge damper on your day. Having some stress tricks to try no matter what you're dealing with can help ensure you have a way to seek relief promptly. You'll be all the better for it.
