How to Beat Spring Stress From School
By Brandi Goodman
Spring is a time of renewed energy and growth in many ways. When it comes to school, however, the spring season marks the final weeks of the year for most students. Find ways to beat the spring stress from school and finish your year strong.
Get Plenty of Sleep
Sleep is essential for keeping stress at bay. It's also essential for making it through a full school day. If you aren't getting adequate rest each night, you're more likely to feel irritable, overwhelmed, and completely stressed out throughout your classes. Get plenty of sleep so you are well-rested and able to handle your stressors with ease instead of letting them impact you in such negative ways.
Spend Time Studying
Many students have testing to worry about in the spring. Whether you're taking a state-mandated test, such as the South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Assessment, or have your finals for each class, you need to be sure to study. Spend time studying for all of your tests so you know that you're adequately prepared and will do your best. Fail to study, and you may not remember all the facts come test time.
Think Positively
Negative thinking can have a huge impact on your mindset -- and on your stress levels. You need to do your best to think positively in all situations. Tell yourself you aced the test. Look in the mirror and say, "I am smart. I am capable. I will finish this school year strong." Saying positive affirmations can help you believe you'll do well and kick the stress about the situation to the curb.
Try Out Various Stress Relief Methods
Each person has their tried-and-true stress relief method that works for them. You should try out several before you settle on which one is right for you. If you start feeling stressed at school, try some deep breathing exercises. Perhaps you can pull out a journal and jot down how you're feeling. Write down some positive affirmations you might tell yourself out loud later. Pop in your headphones when you can and let some upbeat tunes cheer you up. Spend time laughing with your friends at lunch so you can unwind. Lots of stress relievers are out there, it's just a matter of finding which works best to truly calm you and help you make it through your day.
Spring stress from school is all-too-common. It's the end of the year for many students where tests need to be taken and things need to get wrapped up before summer commences. Beat the spring stress any way you can and help yourself finish your school year as strong as possible so you can enjoy your summertime break without worry.
