Why You're Feeling Fatigue and How to Fix It
By Genevieve Cunningham
Fatigue. We’ve all experienced it at one point or another. In fact, most of us experience it on a regular basis. We’re all so … tired! Most adults walk around with at least some level of exhaustion. It’s a wonder we ever get anything done! So, what is the reason for all of the fatigue? Is it a consequence of growing older, or can we actually do something about our constant state of tired? If you’re suffering from constant and chronic fatigue, take a look at these common causes, followed by a few solutions to get you feeling better.
Common Reasons to Feel Fatigue
There could be a ton of causes for your fatigue. Some of the most common causes include:
-
Too much work - In America, we spend far too much time burning the midnight oil. We work all of the time, and it's really causing serious exhaustion.
-
Children - Kids are great, but they're also a ton of work and completely draining. If you have kids, you can probably stop looking for the cause of your fatigue.
-
Insomnia - Insomnia is more prevalent than ever before. And if you can’t sleep, you can't really expect to have energy, can you?
-
Poor nutritional choices - If you’re not making good decisions about food, then you could be causing yourself to be tired. A well balanced diet is a must for energy.
How You Can Fix It
Once you’ve determined the cause of your fatigue, it's easier to make a plan going forward. But it's not always easy to pinpoint the cause, or it may be a combination of problems. If this sounds like you, a few of the solutions for fatigue might include:
-
More sleep - Let’s go with the obvious first. It's possible that more sleep will fix your problem. Set a bedtime, stick to a routine, and get more rest every night.
-
Exercise - Getting a good workout may do two things. First, it might make you tired enough to get more sleep. Second, exercise forces your body to create chemicals that contribute to more energy. It’s a win-win solution.
-
A well balanced diet - You are what you eat. If you eat junk, you’ll be lacking energy. If you eat a diet that is nutritious, you’ll be more likely to have energy to make it through the day and thrive.
-
Time to yourself - Sometimes we simply give too much of ourselves without any return. If you spend all of your time and energy on other people, a little time that is devoted only to you may be in order. This can recharge your batteries and keep you feeling fresh and energized on a regular basis.
