Great Health Goals to Keep in Your Sights
By Genevieve Cunningham
Everyone sets goals. Sometimes we do it on purpose. Maybe you want to graduate college or reach a certain promotion. Other times, it's a bit unintentional. Maybe you just want to make it through the entire work day or sleep through the night without interruption. Goals are incredibly personal -- and as a result, we all carry different goals with us throughout our lives. But there are certain goals that should be the same across the board. Health goals. Maintaining good health is a universal goal, and if we break it down, it can actually be attainable. If you're interested in adding a few staple health goals to your life, take a look at these three areas to get you moving in the right direction.
A Healthy Weight
Keeping a healthy weight should definitely be a goal. Because we live in a world that has normalized being overweight, we often overlook a few pounds. But too much weight can be detrimental to overall health. It can cause high blood pressure, raise the risk of diabetes and heart disease, and lower our overall life expectancy. Set a weight range, and do your best to stay within these healthy parameters. In the long run, it will keep your health in a better condition and keep you feeling your very best.
Regular Movement
Movement is crucial. We need movement for both health and a happy life. If you want to keep certain health goals in your life, movement should definitely be one of them. It doesn't matter whether you join a gym or just move on your own; it just matters that you keep moving. Go for walks, start running, do yoga, get into kickboxing. Don't like any of those? Try swimming or dancing or playing sports with friends. There are so many ways to keep your body active. Choose something fun and effective and start moving today.
Variety in Diet
A boring diet is a recipe for disaster. If you eat the same boring foods over and over again, you're more likely to binge or fall off the diet tracks. Instead, make it a goal to maintain a healthy diet that is built on variety. Try new foods. Try new recipes. Learn about new ingredients and new nutrition guidelines. If you make variety a goal, it can actually be fun to keep your diet healthy! Start today, build over time, and you'll have the healthiest and most delicious diet in no time at all.
Goals are important for everyone. They keep us motivated and moving forward. And if we keep goals that are centered on better health, we can bring big benefits into our lives. Use these to get you started, and you'll build better health that lasts a lifetime.
