Dealing With Anxiety and Depression Working From Home
By Stephen R. Farris
We may all feel a bit of anxiety and depression from time-to-time. If you work from home, you just might feel it more than a lot of us. Being inside the majority of the day, not getting to have contact with your co-workers in person, and losing track of what's happening in the outside world can put a damper on your mental well-being.
When you find yourself dipping into a funk, try a few of these tips to stop it before it takes hold.
Pick Your News Sources
The media world has changed more than ever, and it can be difficult to choose the right news sources out there that won't put you in a state of anxiety, depression, or hysteria. Do your research and pick out the ones that keep you the most informed without constantly repeating the same old stories all day long.
Keep From Getting Overwhelmed
The truth is that news can be overwhelming, especially if you're one to work and listen to the news at the same time throughout your day. Sometimes you have to set limits. Pick out short periods of time. For instance, check out the news in 10- to 15-minute increments in the morning, around lunchtime, and in the evening.
It's Not Always World, National, or Local
Media coverage may include what's going on in the world at the national and local levels as well. But you should always (at least once a day) reach out and talk with your loved ones to check in on them and see if they're OK, or to find out anything new that's happening in their life.
Ask For Help
When you are feeling overwhelmed and anxiety and/or depression starts creeping in, it's OK to ask for help, or seek out advice from a mental health professional. You can even consult with your local chiropractor on the subject.
When working from home, you should always keep your physical health and mental health in mind. Set aside time for exercise and set aside time for your mental well-being. Maybe practice some meditation a couple of times per day to help keep you more focused and in a positive mood.
Don't forget, if you're feeling pain in your back, neck and joints, see your local chiropractor to get relief from what's ailing you.
