Fatigue: 5 Tips to Help Fight It

By Virginia Laird

If you are like me, you feel like you are constantly burning the candle at both ends. This can keep a person rundown and constantly exhausted. Feelings of utter exhaustion can get in the way of the day-to-day life. Research suggests there are a few things that can help fight fatigue, including:

  • Add exercise
  • Drink more water
  • Get some sleep
  • Drop some weight
  • Eat small meals more often

Add Exercise

Adding a simple exercise routine can have a drastic impact on a person's energy level. Research suggests someting as easy as a brisk walk can have a positive impact on mood, motivation, and mobility. Exercise can help the body's blood flow as well.

Drink More Water

The body needs to stay hydrated to work. Muscles and blood flow rely on water to replenish lost fluids. Research suggests that as the body stays hydrated the muscles have more energy. This can help keep fatigue at bay.

Get Some Sleep

Getting plenty of sleep can help fight fatigue. There is no way around it: When there is a lack of sleep, exhaustion will prevail. Sleep offers the body a chance to repair and rejuvenate itself. This can be much-needed after a long day of school or work. As difficult as it may be, go to bed at a decent hour in an attempt to get plenty of sleep. Research suggests adults should get a minimum of six hours of sleep each night.

Drop Some Weight

Holding onto a few extra pounds can slow the body and its metabolism. This can cause the body to tire more quickly. It puts stress on the joints which can make a person have little desire to exercise. This is a sure way to lose any burst of energy a person may have considered. Losing weight can be easier said than done, however, often a person need only lose 5-10 pounds to begin feeling an improvement in energy level.

Eat Small Meals More Often

Diets are, more often, recommending a person eat smaller portions more frequently. This can help to stimulate the metabolism which can provide a boost of energy to the body. It can also help balance blood sugar and prevent a sugar low. Keeping blood sugar in check can keep the body full of energy.
