The chiropractors at The Joint see a lot of patients with hip pain. It makes sense when you think about all the ways your hip joints support the movement of your whole body! That’s what makes hip pain difficult to deal with since it can make the things you enjoy doing more difficult. You realize just how much you use your hips when they hurt!
Here’s what you need to know about hip pain and how your chiropractor can help you cope.
How Hip Pain Manifests
Hip pain may be felt in a few different ways – some of which have nothing to do with your hip! Hip pain may be present on the outer hip, upper thigh, groin, and outer buttock. You may not even realize at first that your hip is the problem, which is why it’s so important to get to the chiropractor and have them evaluate any pain you may be experiencing in the area.
Common Causes of Hip Pain
The most common causes of hip pain are:
- Bursitis and tendinitis – Tendons surround your hips joints, connecting muscles to bone. The impacted tendons can develop inflammation easily, causing pain in the joint. Most of the time, tendinitis is triggered by a repetitive activity. Bursitis is a condition that impacts the small, fluid-filled capsules that surround the joint. It causes achiness, stiffness, and pain.
- Arthritis – Osteoarthritis accounts for most of the hip pain experienced in women. The wear and tear your hips joint experiences with age cause problems with the function of the joint. This can cause pain in the anterior of the thigh or groin.
- Hernia – Hip pain felt in the front of the joint may be caused by a hernia. Sports hernias are caused by a tear or strain of the soft tissue of the groin or lower abdomen.
- Fracture – Hip fractures can be a common side effect of aging. Anyone diagnosed with osteoporosis is an especially high risk for fracture due to reduced bone density.
Hip pain can be inconvenient but it doesn’t have to interrupt your daily life. You can still enjoy activities by getting in to see the chiropractor at the first hint of a problem.
