Chiropractic Can Help Prevent Pain in Holiday Travels
By Paul Rothbart
When fall comes along, the temperatures drop along with the leaves and winter is on the horizon. It's the beginning of the holiday season. Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, New Year's. Whatever you celebrate, you may be one of the many people who travel to the homes of family or friends to share the festivities. That means packing and hauling luggage around as well as spending considerable time in the seat of a car or airplane. The activities associated with travel can cause considerable strain on the body and that can bring on pain that may dampen the fun. There are ways of dealing with that pain and relieving it.
Car Travel
When traveling by car, it's important to protect the back and neck. Make sure your seat is adjusted properly so you don't have to stretch to reach the wheel or pedals. Adjust your mirrors so you can see them by just moving your eyes. If your seats don't have lumbar support, buy a back cushion or roll up a towel to place behind the curve in your lower back. Take regular breaks where you can get out of the car, stretch and move around. If you have another driver, take turns so you can each get a break from the responsibilities of safe driving.
Plane Travel
When flying you don't have the responsibility of manning the plane, but there are still ways you can strain your body. Heavy suitcases should be checked. You can hurt yourself trying to lug them into the crumpled aisles of a plane and lifting them into overhead compartments. Much like with a car, bring a back cushion or towel to support your lower back. You can't get out and move around en route, but as long as the seatbelt light isn't on, you can take a brief walk down the aisle, perhaps to the bathroom, to stretch and the blood flowing.
See a Chiropractor
Subluxations or other issues that exist in your back and joints can make travel even more painful and difficult. Regular chiropractic care can keep your spine and joints properly adjusted, reducing the risk of pain. Some patients find that seeing a chiropractor helps them manage stress and anxiety. That is certainly an asset while traveling.
Holiday travels to spend time with loved ones are some of life's greatest events. Travel can cause strain and pain. Take steps to reduce that risk. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. You don't need an appointment and there are locations all over the country. If you need an adjustment while away from home, chances are that there is a Joint nearby. Enjoy your travels and holidays without the pain.
