3 Breakfast Foods You Should Ban From the Kitchen
By Genevieve Cunningham
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You've undoubtedly heard this before. Starting the day out with a healthy meal is a great way to boost your energy, enhance your focus, and get your body headed down the right path first thing in the morning. But what does a healthy breakfast look like? There are actually many options to choose from. And on the opposite end of the spectrum, there are many things that you should definitely do without. If you're trying to start your day off in a healthy way, take a look at these three breakfast foods that you should definitely ban from your kitchen.
Presweetened Cereal
Not all cold cereal options are bad. Some are packed with protein, fiber, and healthy grains. But the sugary presweetened kind are definitely not among them. The presweetened cereal, most commonly thought of as kids’ cereal, is high calorie, high sugar, and low in essential nutrients. If you want to start the day off right, don't reach for one of these.
Pop Tarts
They’re easy and convenient and super fast … but they're also super unhealthy. Pop Tarts are packed with sugar and calories, and generally offer zero in the way of vitamins or essential nutrients. To avoid the trap, don't even bring these home from the store. If you need something quick and sweet, opt for fruit or toast with a natural jam.
Bacon
We all love it. We love the smell, the sizzling sound while it cooks, and the crunch that we feel in our mouths at first bite. But unfortunately, bacon is an incredibly unhealthy food. Bacon is packed with calories, fat, and artery clogging grease. It might taste delicious, but your body will definitely pay a price for this satisfying food. If you simply can't do without your daily dose of bacon, choose the healthier turkey bacon option, and you may be able to have the best of both worlds.
Breakfast really is incredibly important. It sets the tone for the day and gets your body moving in one direction or another. Make sure that your body is moving toward better health by avoiding these unhealthy foods in the morning, and instead focusing on eating essential nutrients and brain boosting goodness to start your day just right.
