Supplements You Need This Fall
By Genevieve Cunningham
The fall brings a lot of really good things into our lives. Good weather? Check. Comfy clothes? Check. Fun holidays? Check. No wonder so many people enjoy this time of year! But to be fair, the fall also brings some negatives into our lives. This is the season when the flu rears its ugly head and colds run rampant through schools, daycare centers, and places of employment. It's definitely the season of illness. Luckily, there may be something you can do to give yourself a fighting chance this fall. If you want to be proactive about your health, take a look at these supplements that should be a part of your life all season long.
Elderberry
Elderberry has long been known as a powerful flu and cold fighter. Some people only use elderberry once they've been diagnosed with the flu. They'll then take a strong dose -- in pill or liquid form -- to help lessen the effects of the virus. But if you take elderberry in a preventative manner, it can strengthen the immune system and help fight off the flu virus from the very beginning. Grab an elderberry concoction from your local health food store, and take according to the directions. If you have concerns or questions, ask your doctor for advice.
Echinacea
Echinacea is actually a flowering plant in the daisy family. When harvested and made into a supplement, it's a powerful tool for boosting the immune system and fighting the cold and flu. A body that is strengthened by echinacea may still catch these common illnesses, but may experience a shorter duration or lesser symptoms. This is a great supplement for fall but it's really great all year long. Add it to the mix, and you'll be strengthening your body from the inside out.
Garlic
If you want to use garlic for its medicinal purposes, you can either add more to your menu, or you can take it in capsule form. But why garlic? Garlic is highly nutritious. It has been known to help with blood pressure issues, cholesterol problems, and help the body fight off the common cold. It's incredibly powerful, and it's effective for almost all people. The catch? Garlic has a strong smell, and if you take it in large amounts, the smell can emanate from your body. To avoid this, find just the right dose for your size, and you can gain the benefits without the odor.
The fall is a great time to step up your supplement game. The right supplements can boost the immune system and keep your body stronger and healthier overall. Give these supplements a try this season, and enjoy better health all year long.
