Say Yes to More Fruits and Vegetables

By Donna Stark

We all know that fruits and vegetables play an important role in any diet and that our bodies would seriously struggle if it weren't for all the vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants they are filled with. But no matter how often we are told to eat the recommended number of servings each day, it still seems to be a hard thing to do for many of us. If you are struggling to eat what the experts advise, keep reading. Your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic have some suggestions that may be able to help.

Start Your Day With a Smoothie

There is no easier way to boost the number of servings you consume than to start your day with a smoothie. Since one-half cup equals one serving of fruit or vegetables, you can easily knock out a huge chunk of your daily intake. Toss in three types of fruit, half an avocado, and a cup of spinach into the blender with some water or juice and get ready to tackle the day! Just imagine all the nutrition you will be filling your body with!

Pack Fruit for Your Morning Snack

A single piece of fruit for your morning snack will knock out yet another serving off your list, so keep some nearby for your mid-morning snack. Fruits such as apples, pears, oranges, bananas, and plums are perfect options to choose from since they are so easy to grab and go.

Skip the Chips and Fries

When you go out for lunch and order your meal, substitute the chips and fries for some more fruits and vegetables. A side salad, some steamed broccoli, or a handful of carrot sticks will do your body more good than that pile of greasy carbs, and will get one more serving out of the way.

Load Your Dinner Plate

Try to fill your dinner plate at least half full with vegetables. This can include frozen, canned, or fresh vegetables, or a combination of them in a salad. You can add more vegetables to your sauces, soups, and mashed potatoes too. Yes! Mashed potatoes! Add some finely chopped carrots to your spaghetti sauce, toss some extra spinach into your vegetable soup, and mash some steamed broccoli with your potatoes. Eating more vegetables at dinnertime is easier than you think.

More Fruits and Vegetables for Better Health

No matter where you are starting out from, adding more fruits and vegetables is the best decision you can make. Good health is just around the corner and has never been tastier!
