Clothes May Make the Workout Work

By Tom Herrin

When choosing clothes for a workout, some people don’t.  That is, they simply pick something out, put it on, and go from there.  The problem with this system is there is not one.  People are just getting dressed and going to work out.  This may be fine for some, but for those who really try to accomplish something, there is not enough thought put into it.  When people become serious about their purpose for a workout, they want to consider every facet of their efforts.

There Are Clothes For Warm Weather

It is important to remember that during a workout, people are going to sweat.  A breathable fabric can make the experience much more comfortable.  The cooling rate of evaporation is important in the warm weather.  As the air dries the fabric, a good fabric allows the skin to dry as well.  This creates a feeling of cooling.  It is especially important to have a fabric that wicks away moisture.  There are plenty on the market today, and they are more affordable than ever.

Cool Weather Clothes

Choosing clothes for a workout in cold weather should follow the same principle as dressing for almost anything else in the cold.  Layers are extremely useful because they can allow people to make adjustments as they go.  It is definitely important to avoid clothes that will get wet and stay wet.  People should be protected from wet weather and excessive wind.  It can be a little tough to make the right choice.  People should be careful to plan so that they do not get caught too far away from home if the weather should change suddenly.  Layers can be taken off as people warm but cannot be put back on quite as easily.

Making The Right Choice For The Right Reason

It is important to think about the kind of workout, the conditions, and the recovery.  Clothes should fit pretty well.  In some colder weather activities, looser fitting clothes can be helpful.  For warmer weather activities, clothes should be a pretty good fit.  Nothing should be worn that is so loose that it could be caught up in a moving part as in a bicycle chain or sagging or drooping too much while running.  Particularly as they get wet, clothes that are too loose fitting can seem to weigh people down.  Workout clothes should serve their purpose well.  Comfort and limited restrictions are important.  Plan ahead and make good choices.
