3 Tips to Enjoy the Game Sans Back Pain

By Virginia Laird

Every weekend in the fall you are likely to find yourself chasing those Friday night lights, looking for what is going to be a great prep football game. Although following your favorite athletes from one high school stadium to another may bring you much joy, the back pain that may accompany time in the bleachers is less desirable. Chiropractors encourage a few things you can do to help keep your night at the game pain-free. These include:

  • Stretch before the game
  • Wear comfy clothes
  • Make a trip to the restroom

Stretch Before the Game

Chiropractors suggest that light stretching before the game can help your back manage any stress it may come across while sitting in the stands. Bleachers were simply not built to offer any back support. Without such support, many use poor posture, which leads to stress on the joints of the spine and pain. Consider making stretching part of your pregame routine this weekend.

Wear Comfy Clothes

Rather than trying to dress too formal at the local ball game, it is best for your back that you dress comfortably. This includes your shoes. Inevitably you will find yourself climbing the bleachers. Doing this in the wrong shoes can lead to back pain. Likewise, sitting in the stands in clothing that is too restrictive can lead to back pain. Plan now to throw on your favorite spirit gear and tennis shoes for the game this weekend.

Make a Trip to the Restroom

Chiropractors encourage patients to get up and move about during the football game. It is suggested that you make a trip to the restroom or concession stand. Your quick walk does not need to be long.  A simple walk can allow the back to stretch and release tension, making the rest of your time in the bleachers more bearable. Following this advice can be helpful in relieving tension in the back that can lead to pain.
