Is Your Back Under Constant Siege?
By Sandy Schroeder
Harming the back can happen as we hurry through the day lifting toddlers, toting work bags, or bringing in the groceries. On the weekends, there is more to do.
We may lug strollers, tote laundry, or deal with the lawn. The fun just never stops! Of course, most of us would not have it any other way. This is the world we treasure.
Staying up for the job at home and at work may not be a problem until we run into back aches or ongoing pain.
See Your Chiropractor
If your back is signaling trouble, take the time to see your chiropractor. The Joint Chiropractic clinic near you has a dedicated staff of licensed chiropractors who are ready to help.
They see everyone, from teens to seniors, for an array of issues. Pain in the back, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, legs, or feet can be caused by joint restrictions that respond well to chiropractic adjustments.
When you come in, your chiropractor will want to hear about your pain, daily activities and health history.
Your chiropractor will explain how spinal health can create overall wellness. The spine houses the nervous system that commands everything we do. When it works well, so do we.
An adjustment may be used to correct spinal dysfunctions. The adjustment is a gentle application of a targeted movement to improve motion of the body’s spinal column and extremities.
Pain relief may be achieved, increasing mobility and soothing nerve irritation. Wellness benefits, such as fresh energy, more alertness, or better sleep, may also appear.
As you assess your results, you and your chiropractor can develop a plan to keep your back pain-free and avoid future injury. Protective steps, such as these for lifting from Harvard Health, will also be reviewed.
- Face the object and stand close to it.
- Bend your knees and squat to power the lift with your legs. Never bend from the waist.
- Tuck your buttocks in, and tighten your stomach as you lift.
- Never lift too high. Keep heavy loads at waist level or lower, and lighter loads below the shoulders.
- Never twist your upper body. Turn your whole body at the same time.
- Get help to lift objects that are too heavy.
