How to Avoid Headaches - With Chiropractic!

Many people struggle with headaches for a variety of reasons, but many types of headaches can be avoided. Lots of people just accept headaches as a fact of life, and while they’re not all avoidable, their frequency can be reduced. But reaching for painkillers to remedy the situation isn’t going to help you learn to get rid of some types of headaches for good. Here’s how you can try to avoid having headaches, and how your chiropractor is the perfect person to help!

Conservative Treatment

Many different types of headaches respond well to conservative treatment, you just have to know what to do! Unfortunately, there isn’t one thing that can work for everyone; it’s really something you have to be diligent about to see what works for you. If you’re looking to effectively eliminate your headaches without the help of drugs, then your neck is going to be the first place you want to look.

Even if you don’t have neck pain or stiffness, once you go to the chiropractor they will most likely find joint restriction or dysfunction in your neck that is contributing to your headaches. Many people who suffer from chronic headaches carry a lot of muscle tension in their necks, and that’s usually a huge source of the problem.

If you are experiencing your fair share of headaches, then you can try these conservative approaches to remedy them:

  • Look at your head posture - When you’re sitting or standing, do you have what is referred to as forward head posture? If your head is out in front of your body and not directly over your shoulders, then muscle tension can develop in your neck, shoulders, and upper back that can lead to headaches.
  • Stretch – Stretching your neck does not mean you should be popping it! Adjustment is firmly the territory of your chiropractor. What you can do is actually take your neck through its natural range of motion to stretch the muscles out and lengthen them. This will release tension and hopefully keep headaches away.
  • See your chiropractor – You need to have your neck checked out by a professional, so go see your chiropractor in order to make sure your neck is free from joint dysfunction and restriction.
