Having Simple Fun with Family Can Improve Health

By Tom Herrin

Trying to get in shape can often seem to isolate people.  As they become involved in a workout routine, they may separate themselves from family and friends as they attempt to put more time into their efforts.  It is admirable for someone to be so committed to improving their health. And there are times when it may be a good choice. Starting out with a simple activity can be much more inclusive of others while still getting movement and some needed quality exercise.  Having family members with them can provide a good opportunity for all to become more active. Frisbee golf may be something to consider that can fit that bill.

It Can Develop an Appreciation for Nature

When people play disc golf, they will find themselves in some kind of natural setting.  All of the courses are designed to play the obstacles. There will be trees, hills, shrubs, and all kinds of other kinds of things that may be found in a park.  Part of the fun is going around them in a strategic manner. Being in the outdoors can expose people to nature itself. There is often a feeling of being a part of it.  This can be a great exposure for adults as well as children.

It Will Require Exercise

The exercise in playing the game is not normally difficult but fun.  People will likely walk a mile or more as they move around the course.  Walking while doing some other physical task such as tossing a disc, even though it seems simple, can increase the level of exercise.  Some choose to increase the challenge of the game by jogging or running as they move around the course. It is sure to provide good exercise as people get lost in the fun of the game while developing a love for exercise and physical activity.

It Can Develop a Feeling of Doing Something Well

Correct practice can help people improve their skills.  Whenever someone can see progress in whatever they do, it makes them feel good.  This increases their level of confidence about attempting to do almost anything. Those with greater confidence feel better about themselves and that they have more control over their own lives.  This can help stave off depression, thereby making this simple game a win-win for the whole family.
