As the days grow longer and people seek to find more things to help improve their diets, they need not look beyond their local grocer or farmers market. It is always nice to add some local foods to the list of things that are used to put a little more variety in their meals. In this area, peaches are a food that ripens anywhere from April to August, depending on the variety, and are readily available at a generally affordable price. They can make a great addition to most menus in all sorts of forms.
They Are High in Fiber
A lot of people are looking for a food that can help with their digestion. There are all kinds, but something that is high in fiber is a really good start. Peaches not only have a lot of fiber, but they also contain plenty of water as well. This can help with the digestion of food and help with hydration at the same time.
They Have Good Nutrients
In the warmer temperatures, a lot of people tend to lose nutrients through perspiration and activity. Peaches are a good source of Vitamins A and C as well as several other vitamins and minerals. Eating them as part of a meal or a snack can help to supply many of those that are lost. They are a naturally sweet food that is pretty popular with kids and adults. The fact that an average peach is only about 68 calories is a secondary benefit.
They May Be a Breakfast or Dessert
A lot of people eat peaches as part of a healthy breakfast. They are good with cottage cheese or cream. They are also good with cereal. Of course, they are good in a fruit salad., but the real deal is ice cream. A lot of people enjoy putting peaches in homemade ice cream. Even adding them to ice cream from the grocery store is not bad. The good part of peaches in ice cream is that when considering volume, ice cream with peaches is lower in fat and calories yet still sweet. In the whole scheme of things, peaches are a pretty good food that can really complement a healthy diet. If you want to be creative, you can probably find lots of other ways to eat them as well.
