Looking for Stress Relief? Your Chiropractor May Help

Over the years I have watched some people thread their way through amazing amounts of stress, and still come out alive and well. Somehow their faith, choice of resources and ability to remain positive worked to help them deal with everything life tossed at them.

On the other hand, I have known people who became stressed and frustrated in their middle years, and let a bunch of bad habits shape their remaining years. Weight gain, smoking, drinking and lack of activity took their toll on health and definitely cut their senior years short.

If you are at that point in life when you feel stressed and each day seems to add a little more weight and worry, start now to get some good help and make good choices.

The American Chiropractic Association warns living with chronic stress can backfire, causing anxiety, depression and serious health problems. They recommend putting challenges into perspective and taking action to reduce the effects of stress. They suggest thinking positively and trying cognitive-behavioral therapy, which helps people recognize negative thought patterns and replace them with positive ones, reducing chronic stress and depression.

ACA also recommends developing strong support systems, giving and getting hugs, getting out and enjoying nature, seeing the funny side of life, and learning to relax with a good book or a cup of tea. They also recommend music, meditation and guided imagery as good ways to let stress go.  ACA also recommends a high protein, fresh fruit and vegetable, and whole grain diet with low fat dairy. Along with a good diet they suggest exercising regularly and staying active, volunteering, gardening, fishing, or boating.

A Visit to the Chiropractor Can Help

In the midst of stress, if you are having aches and pain as you look for ways to be more active, your chiropractor may be able to help. In the initial visit a spinal adjustment will be used to evaluate your spinal health. From there a review of medical history and current activities will help the chiropractor shape an overall wellness program for you to relieve stress and pain. The overall goal will be to maintain activity without medications or surgery.

As the program evolves the chiropractor may suggest a meditation, Tai Chi class, good weight loss diet, or other stress relief techniques. And as you go out there the chiropractor will be on hand to help with any new twinges that come up.

If you are coping with stress make an appointment now and get some solutions.
