Time for a Summer Tune Up? See Your Chiropractor
More and more chiropractors are helping people keep their bodies in prime condition, so they can stay active longer, and do everything they enjoy without running into pain or stiffness.
I see this in my community all of the time. I live near the beach, and I often see a group of active seniors who do Tai Chi, walk their dogs in the park, and show up for all sorts of other community classes. These seniors obviously know being active is the key to living happily and independently.
In another community nearby I see seniors who are less fortunate. Many are moving slower, using walkers or wheelchairs, and needing lots of assistance.
Choosing the much more enjoyable active path does require work, but obviously it is worth it.
Really this goal of activity can work for all of us. Whatever your age, if you are in the young, middle years or approaching senior status, staying in top shape and staying as active as possible really is crucial. Researchers have made it clear that too much sitting is dangerous and we know muscles have to be worked to be maintained.
One answer could be regular tune ups at your chiropractor’s.
Before you head out for weekend fishing, sailing, hiking, camping or exercising in the park, your chiropractor can make sure you are up to it. Little twinges, stiff or sore joints and muscles, and knee pain can all make a big difference in activity level, and can ruin a perfectly good weekend if they show up.
But your chiropractor may be able to help. The first visit will include a spinal adjustment to evaluate your spinal health and help relieve any pain you may be having. Then a complete medical history will be taken and there will be a review of daily activities. Along with the review, the chiropractor may have questions about weight, posture, and any other things going on life that may create stress or add a burden.
Slouching on the couch, hunching over computer screens or concentrating on activities like knitting or sewing may all come up for discussion. For some, learning the way to pick up heavy items, or choosing the right shoes with good support for walking might come up too. As spring moves into summer, you may want to book regular visits to the chiropractor to ensure a great summer. Overall, the chiropractor’s goal is to maintain healthy function that helps avoid pain and does not include medications or surgery.
If you are planning your summer now, you might want to include your chiropractor too.
