Give a Little Credit to Camping for Better Health
By Tom Herrin
Most people want to be as healthy as possible. The difference in wanting to and actually doing something about it may have a wide gap. When people are really serious about their health, they will normally be focused on exercise, diet, or both. For those who struggle with either of these things, there are some other options. A simple way for anyone to provide a shot in the arm for their health is to go camping. It can be very enjoyable as well as a good way to accomplish something without really concentrating on it, and anyone can do it with very little expense, training, or equipment.
It May Help With Sleep
A lot of people have trouble getting good sleep. Some of this is likely due to working shifts in which their schedules vary widely. Another major factor is electronics, whether it is video or audio. It can disrupt quality sleep for many. Stress is always a possible culprit. When people sleep outdoors, they tend to adjust their schedules according to the sun. They may get up with the sunrise and wind down near the time of sunset. According to a study from the University of Colorado, when people do this, they may get much better sleep. Most who have been camping are well aware of this.
It May Help Improve Eyesight
For many years, it has been generally believed that too much sun could contribute to a rise in cases of myopia. More recently, it appears more evident that much of this increase in myopia may be related to video screens of some kind or another. According to a Canadian study, people who spend more time outdoors actually had lower levels of myopia. While people certainly need to exercise caution with UV rays, this is generally good news for those who enjoy the outdoors. It may also be a little more incentive to do more camping and other such activities.
It May Help Get More Vitamin D
Most vitamins are obtained from food sources. They are essential for good health. A more unique vitamin is Vitamin D. The sun is often the primary source of this vitamin. This vitamin may help to protect from some cancers, high blood pressure, and heart disease among other things. I enjoy getting out in the outdoors. It gives me a good lift when I do. Every opportunity I have, I try to get out there.
