Look for Ways to Get More for Less in Health

By Tom Herrin

Most people try to be prudent shoppers.  This may include buying the best products for the best price or evaluating the quantity versus the cost per item.  When it comes to exercise, they often buy what is being sold.  In other words, many are not in the market to do that much research and rely on what seems to work for others.  This can be good except that all people don't really have the same needs.  The availability of time is a critical component for most.  It is one thing if they have adequate time and something very different if time is short.  An effective workout plan can be designed for just about anyone as long as they consider their time demands and needs.  Those sessions may be cut shorter and still work.

For Runners, It Need Not Be All or None

People become so accustomed to what they see and hear about successful programs that they often buy into them without thinking.  Individual needs are an important thing to consider.  For those who have little time but still feel the need to exercise, they need not feel they have shorted their health if they shorten a workout.  Some studies have indicated that people who run may experience a boost to their health by doing so for seven minutes per day, if they do it on a regular basis.  The studies have shown that this may cut their risk of death from heart disease as much as 45 percent.  This may be a comfort for those who need to free up time.

If You're Happy and You Know It

Being happy is an important key in experiencing better health.  Feeling good about oneself may encourage them to try more things and have a brighter outlook on life.  One study revealed that people who rode a stationary bike for 10 minutes per day regularly were happier.  They also were able to perform various mental tasks better.  Happiness is often an important factor in promoting better health.  For those with limited time for their activity, this may be a great alternative.

Do It With Enthusiasm

Whatever we do, it is better if we feel that we have some ownership in it.  Making decisions about our own programs is important.  It we plan according to our personal needs instead of what we feel others do, we may well be more successful.  When our health is at stake, we really need to do whatever it takes.  If we can do this and still have time for our other activities, we have come out ahead.
