It Is Possible to Manage Temperature for Health

By Tom Herrin

There are plenty of things people simply can do nothing about.  The old saying that everyone talks about the weather but doesn't do anything about it is the classic example.  When there is something that can be done, they may hesitate.  This is likely due to the fact that they have little faith in it or would rather complain than do something.  It appears that controlling temperature may be a way to help in more than one area of living.  While it may be considered that the best temperature range for general comfort for most people is from 60 to 80 degrees, there are some cases in which a tighter range may be beneficial.

Temperature May Have an Impact on Sleep

For those who experience problems with sleep, any news may be good news.  If they have tried everything else, they may want to try to do something with temperature.  It has been said the optimal range may be from 65 to 72 degrees.  This may help to encourage the sleep cycles to work more efficiently.  Many people feel that they sleep better when it is cooler, so why not turn down the temps at bedtime.  Some people feel that they sleep better when they have some heavier covers.  Some even use weighted blankets.

Weight Loss May Be Easier in the Right Temperature

Some have studied the effects of temperatures on weight loss.  It is thought that the range from 64 to 67 degrees is the best for this.  It obviously has some effect on the success of a program.  For those who dare to challenge the elements, some have said that those who shiver may actually be able to increase their metabolism and the rate at which they burn calories.  For sure, they won't want to spend too much time in these temps, but it may be worth a try.

To Each Their Own

We all have to determine exactly what works for us.  I have always had some problems with sleep but found that I can sleep better in the cold.  As a result, I turn my thermostat down each night when I go to bed.  That way, I sleep with some light cover and seem to be able to go back to sleep even if I wake up in the night.  I am willing to try any good suggestions, and I feel that temperature is one that can work.
