Chiropractic Offers Low Cost High Approval
By Sandy Schroeder
As we all consider health care choices at various times, chiropractic may be a choice for you to consider. Recent reports show chiropractic scores twice, delivering a high rate of satisfaction and cost effective services.
Chiropractic is emerging as an answer on many fronts. More people are choosing chiropractic as a natural drug-free choice as opioid prescription medications raise serious addiction questions. The medical community has designated chiropractic as the “conservative first choice,” ahead of prescription pain medications or surgery, according to the American Chiropractic Association.
To see how all of these benefits work, stop in at The Joint Chiropractic clinic near you. A comprehensive wellness center staffed with licensed chiropractors, provides health and wellness assistance for everyone, from children to seniors.
Patient Satisfaction and Savings
Here are a few of the many documented reports of patient satisfaction and cost effectiveness.
According to the White Paper, Foundation for Chiropractic Progress, 2016 – “Chiropractic, A Safer Strategy than Opiates,” the Journal Spine published a study saying: “Reduced odds of surgery were observed for those whose first provider was a chiropractor - 42.7 percent of workers with back injuries, who first saw a surgeon had surgery, in contrast to only 1.5 percent of those who saw a chiropractor.”
Another study of 85,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) beneficiaries in Tennessee concluded: “Low back pain initiated with a chiropractor saves 40 percent on health care costs, when compared with care initiated through a medical doctor.”
In a study of North Carolina patients seeking treatment for acute low back pain from various health care professionals, including primary care physicians, chiropractors, and orthopedic surgeons, researchers found that those who visited a chiropractor had a higher degree of satisfaction in the care they received.
ACA Approval Reports
The American Chiropractic Association reported similar examples: A 2012 study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found patients with acute and sub-acute neck pain found spinal manipulation therapy provided by chiropractors more effective than medication in both the short and long term.
A 2009 Milstein and Choudhry report stated “…when considering effectiveness and cost together, chiropractic physician care for low back and neck pain is highly cost effective, and represents a good value in comparison to medical physician care. …”
A 2010 study at the University of British Columbia found that guidelines-based care, which included spinal manipulation provided by a chiropractor, was significantly more effective than “usual care” provided by medical physicians for patients with lower back pain of less than 16 weeks duration.
