Is Your Back Demanding Attention? Chiropractic Helps

By Sandy Schroeder

When the back sends out pain signals, it’s wise to find out why. Sometimes you know what happened. You may have just helped someone move. Or you may have been in an accident. Other times the pain remains a mystery.

Check these red flags for back pain from Prevention.com.

You may have a digital slouch – Hovering over your tablet puts 60 extra pounds of weight on your spine. Pain and “text neck” may develop.  Keep your screens at eye level.

Stress may have a grip on you – Stress can trigger knots in the neck and upper back. Anxiety can set off back spasms. Worry about pain can make it even worse.

Muscle imbalances  – Weak abdominal muscles or tight hamstrings can cause back pain. Weight gain and poor posture can add to the problem.

Workplace and posture – If you sit all day, poor posture can lead to low back pain. Keep your head in line with your body. Forearms and thighs should be parallel to the floor with feet flat on the floor. Monitors should be at eye level. Make sure the back is completely supported.

Ruptured or bulging disks – Disks between the vertebrae in the spine absorb shock. As we age, they can flatten or rupture. Bulging disks can be extremely painful requiring treatment.

See Your Chiropractor to Pinpoint the Problem

The Joint Chiropractic clinic near you can help you pin down the problem and seek solutions.

After reviewing your health history, and normal routine, your chiropractor will explain how spinal health works. The spine houses the delicate nervous system that controls much of the body’s behavior.  When there are joint restrictions, a spinal adjustment may be used to correct dysfunctions.

Finding Pain Relief

The adjustment is a focused, gentle movement of the spine and extremities to improve motion and ease nerve irritation. You may feel pain relief and an overall sense of well-being.

As you evaluate the results, you and your chiropractor can put together a plan for ongoing care.  You may need to cut back on work hours, lower stress levels, avoid smoking, and lose weight.

Two of my relatives ran into severe lower back pain. In both cases, they went from busy jobs to painful stays at home as pain settled in. With the help of their chiropractors, they made it back to their jobs and resumed their lives.
