Inflammation, Tendinitis, And Chiropractic Care

Surely you know at least one or two facts about tendons. These extensions of our muscles allow movement in the joints by attaching muscle fibers into the surrounding bones in the area. Although we don’t think or talk about these body parts often, tendons really are crucial to maintaining our ability to be mobile, agile, and independent.

Naturally, if something bad were to happen to our tendons, it just makes sense that this would cause us a world of pain, both literally and figuratively. As it turns out, for all the strengths that our tendons can boast about, even they aren’t immune to that age old health issue we know to be inflammation. Inflammation in the tendons leads to the painful condition known as tendonitis. You may have heard of this too, or maybe you’ve unfortunately been able to experience it firsthand. If you haven’t, I’ll provide you with some fast facts I learned from a post by Chiropractic Now regarding the connection between the tendons and inflammation – and how chiropractic adjustments can solve any issues that may arise.

Inflammation in the tendon is usually caused by overuse or overexertion of a particular set of muscles over and over again. This happens often in athletes, especially runners who push themselves and tennis players who swing with too much force. Overuse of muscles is also common in many labor heavy jobs, where people find themselves repeating the same actions of lifting heavy objects for long hours throughout the day, day in and day out. Even a car crash or another traumatic injury or fall can cause inflammation in the tendons to appear. At first, you may notice swelling and redness of the skin on top of a particular set of muscles. This will gradually worsen to a dull or sharp pain that gets worse when the muscles are contracted or strained in any way.

When mobility becomes severely limited because of the effects of tendonitis, you know it’s time to seek help and pain relief. This is where chiropractic care can help. Chiropractic is renowned for its ability to reduce inflammation in the soft tissues of the body. As your doctor of chiropractic works to adjust your spinal column into the proper alignment, your nerves will become relieved from the pressure that a misalignment, or a subluxation, can cause. Once your nerves are freed up from this burden, inflammation usually disappears as well.
