Pelvic Stabilization Treatment During Pregnancy

When it comes to receiving chiropractic care, there are actually more treatment methods than you may be aware of. While manual manipulation and spinal adjustments are the most well known and commonly associated adjustments with chiropractic, there are other chiropractic treatment methods and services that go beyond just manipulation.

In addition to chiropractic traction, which gently stretches out the spinal column to reveal space between the vertebra, and cold laser therapy, which uses certain wavelengths of light to restore mobility to stiff muscles, there is a treatment method known as pelvic stabilization. As pointed out by a great article by Spine Health, it’s a method that’s been proven to be very helpful for many patients, but particularly to women who are pregnant and are experiencing common aches and pains associated with the rapid weight gain and stresses that being pregnant can bring.

In patients who are currently dealing with conditions such as flat feet, leg length deficiency, or subtalar instability, pelvic stabilization essentially involves using arch supports or heel lifts in order to ensure proper balance and movement in the patient in spite of these conditions. Over time, a patient who has been having difficulties with stability or mobilization may find that they have a much easier time getting around independently, and that they may also experience much less pain while walking, sitting, and standing.

Pregnant women can also benefit greatly from pelvic stabilization therapeutic methods and treatments. Since the weight gain that is caused by pregnancy is often so sudden, it tends to put quite a lot of stress and strain on the joints and muscles of the pregnant woman. This can more than likely lead to inflammation, swelling, and aches and pains in many of the joints in and around the pelvic area. Soreness and stiffness are also symptoms that very commonly occur as a result of pregnancy.

In addition to other more traditional chiropractic adjustments and manipulations, pelvic stabilization techniques can be used to enhance these previous natural remedies and treatments for a more complete course of treatment and relief from pain and soreness that is often related to the physical demands and burdens of pregnancy. Over the course of regular weekly or bi weekly treatments, many pregnant women tend to report an overall increase in mobility and movement ability, while also being able to report a noticeable decrease in pain and aches in the joints and ligaments of their bodies.
