The Importance of Consistency in Working Out

Many people grumble that they cannot lose weight, even though they are going to the gym a few times a week. While this may not be the only reason why individuals are not toning up and shedding the pounds, there is something to be said about not working out consistently.

It is okay to miss a few workouts here and there, but to reap the most health benefits, it is best to stick with consistency. Missing too many workouts will lead to loss of endurance, motivation, and can even lead to more injuries.

Consistent workouts will also help you tone up quicker and get the fitness results you are looking for. As we all know all too well, life gets in the way of keeping a regular workout schedule. So how do you keep working out even when you are busy? Here are our top tips on how to maintain a regular workout regimen:

  1. Schedule it in. If you work in an office, then you probably know how important scheduled meetings and appointments are. If you schedule a meeting with a client, chances are you are going to make it to that meeting, even when you don’t feel like it. Why? For one, it is your job; and for two, you have made a commitment. Make that same commitment with the gym or wherever you have decided to workout. Still have trouble with this? Schedule a workout with a friend or personal trainer instead. You are less likely to miss a morning run when you promised a friend you would be there.
  2. Keep changing it up. Look for work outs that will constantly keep you on your toes and looking forward to the next workout.  There are many exercise programs available that are three months long and that have a different schedule for each month. Keep mixing up your workout so that you do not get bored.
  3. Have something to look forward to. Love to read or watch TV shows? Center your working out around that. Don’t allow yourself to watch your favorite episode or read your favorite book until you are moving on the treadmill. Sure, you will not get the best workout, but you are creating the healthy habit of working out daily.

When it comes to working out, as well as establishing other healthy habits, consistency is key. Take your workout one day at a time and before you know it, it will be a habit.
