Adding Chiropractic Care to your Self-Care Routine
By Donna Kostiew
You can't always be in the position to control the “stuff” that life throws your way, but you can be in control of how you respond and how well you take care of yourself. Self-care has recently become the new buzzword of the day. And it’s not that the thought of it didn’t exist before, it’s just that now, people are really starting to take notice of how important it is. And that’s a good thing.
Foundation to Proper Self-Care
There are three basic foundation blocks that you should focus on to start the self-care process. They are sleep, nutrition, and exercise. Yeah, I know … you were probably thinking that I was headed in the direction of baths, shopping, and massages, right? Well, I won’t deny that such self-indulgence has amazing benefits too, but let’s start with a different kind of foundation before we include those in the process. Because if you are too tired, and if you don’t eat well or exercise enough, you will likely be a little less healthy and a lot more reactive to the stress in your life, and not any number of baths will help you overcome those kinds of problems.
Self-Care Strategies
Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why building a proper foundation for self-care is important.
- Sleep - Sleep is very important for your emotional well-being and physical health. Lack of sleep can wreak havoc on your body and in turn, your ability to handle stress and be productive during your days. It’s important to establish a consistent sleep schedule and maintain healthy habits that will encourage a good night’s rest every night.
- Proper Nutrition - A poor diet can make you more vulnerable to health issues and stress, so be intentional about consuming a diet rich in nutrition and make it a point to find the time to shop for and cook healthy meals.
- Exercise - Exercise is critical for both physical and mental health, so get out of the house or office and start moving! The benefits of exercising are really too numerous to list, but the effects it has on your health can’t be ignored. And the best thing about exercise? It doesn’t take hours in a gym to reap all of the health benefits that come with it.
Wait! There’s one More Thing
Setting up the proper foundation for self-care is awesome, but it does take a lot of time and commitment to do so. Wouldn’t it be a shame if you put in all of that work and one of your foundation blocks started to fall apart? Don’t let that happen and avoid that scenario altogether by adding one more easy step in your pursuit of self-care.
Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care is a great step toward maintaining the health and function of your body and positively affects each one of your foundation blocks to self-care. It helps improve your sleep, it helps with your digestive system and ensures that you receive every bit of nutrition you put in your body, and it also helps keep your body moving with little to no pain so you can exercise freely.
