Slip and Fall? Your Chiropractor Can Help!
By Donna Stark
Whether you miscounted the steps on a staircase or tried to chase your toddler while wearing flip-flops, it doesn't take much to slip and fall, does it? And sometimes, those hard landings to the ground can be quite the jolt, not only physically but emotionally as well, so it's completely understandable that you would want to pick yourself up and get on with your day as quickly as you can. However, you may want to slow down and make sure everything is really OK before you put that fall out of your mind. Take a look at what your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic recommend.
Check Yourself
We get it. Falls can be embarrassing and your first instinct may be to jump right up and keep moving. But before you do that, you may want to take a deep breath, collect yourself, and check your body for any injuries. Keep in mind that not all injuries are visible, so get up slowly and take your first few steps with caution.
Apply Ice or Bandages if Necessary
If you have sustained a minor injury, such as a sprained ankle or a skinned knee, take care of yourself immediately by applying ice or bandages. It is typically recommended that you ice on and off for at least 20 minutes each round. So, ice for 20 minutes, then take a break for 20 minutes, then keep repeating as necessary.
Visit The Joint Chiropractic
Remember how we said not all injuries are visible? That's why it is so important to seek chiropractic care after a fall, even if you feel fine. You won't necessarily know if your body was jolted out of alignment when you hit the ground, and if it was and you ignore the damage, you could be setting yourself up for more serious issues down the road. Your local chiropractor will be able to tell right away if anything is wrong and can help correct the dysfunction found in your spine and joints. Chiropractic care can also help reduce inflammation, soother nerve irritation, and speed the healing process of many injuries.
