Prevent Joint Damage With Chiropractic Guidance

By Brandi Goodman

Many everyday occurrences are cause for concern when it comes to our joints. You may not even realize the damage being done until significant pain is noticed. With some chiropractic guidance, you can better prevent premature joint damage and help to ease your discomfort.

Use a Pillow for Sleep Support

No, I'm not talking about a pillow under your head. You'll of course have this. But an additional pillow for sleep support can help to protect your spine and joints. If you sleep on your stomach, you're going to throw your spine out of alignment. Continue doing so if you wish, but at least place a pillow under your pelvis to keep your spine aligned and free from pain. If you sleep on your back or side, you can use a pillow under or between your knees for the same benefit.

Avoid Excessive Phone Use

Phones have taken over. We use them to talk, text, surf the web, take pictures, make GIFs, share funny videos, and so much more. All of this excessive phone use has done a number on our bodies. Looking down at your phone and keeping your neck at an angle puts too much pressure on your body. This added weight pulls on your shoulders and causes tension. You should avoid excessive phone use to prevent this -- or at least hold your device up to eye level rather than looking down at it.

Maintain a Healthy Weight

Extra weight puts a lot of pressure on your joints. Lose just one pound and you can take several pounds worth of pressure off your knees. Do your best to maintain a healthy weight so your joints don't suffer. You should be getting plenty of exercise and eating nutritious foods to combat weight gain. These options also assist with healthy joints on their own, making them even more imperative.

Get Routine Chiropractic

Chiropractic care can assist with joint damage and pain. A restriction that's in place can be corrected with an adjustment, alleviating the discomfort and poor range of motion in a particular area. The joints need proper assessment from a doctor, and a chiropractor can help pinpoint problems before they arise or worsen.

Head to one of the more than 500 Joint Chiropractic locations for an adjustment. You'll get to alleviate some of the joint discomfort you've been feeling and receive some additional advice on how best to keep your joints and body in the best condition possible for your well-being.
