Avoid Body Aches and Pain When Pregnant!
By Sara Butler
Pregnancy is often touted as a very special time in a woman’s life. It is a time when you’re growing another human being inside you, after all. It is pretty special – but that certainly doesn’t mean it’s without challenges. Your body is rapidly growing and changing during this time, and that makes it a time when aches and pains can become a problem. Here is some chiropractic advice to help get you beyond those nine miraculous months with as little pain as possible!
You’re Carrying Enough
Sometimes you can’t help but carry other children, especially if you have older kids already. But, you need to think about the alignment of your lower back during this time. If your pelvis is out of whack, then it can cause hip and lower back pain to worsen. If you can avoid holding other children, that’s the best scenario, but if you live in the real world and have other kids, then you should try holding them in front of you or alternating the side you hold them on.
Don’t Take Sides
Life is all about balance, especially when your body is trying to throw you off balance with that huge uterus! Make sure you lighten your load as much as possible and avoid carrying heavy bags or purses. Also, alternate the side you do carry things on to help distribute weight more evenly. Constantly leaning to one side can create muscle imbalances that can cause a lot of problems physically for you as you become bigger. Don’t cross your legs or pick things up on just one side of your body, either.
Practice Your Posture
Your center of gravity changes over the period of time you’re pregnant, which makes focusing on your posture as important as ever. You have to have good posture in order for your spine to function as well as possible, so work with your chiropractor to address your posture while pregnant.
Stretch
Changes in your weight and the shift of your balance mean that muscles will be used differently and pushed to their max. You can help your muscles stay healthy by making sure to lightly stretch every day. This can also help you to avoid strained or sprained muscles, which can be very uncomfortable when pregnant.
See Your Chiropractor
You need to let you chiropractor help guide you through your pregnancy. They can help to give you advice about your posture and your changing body, as well as make sure your spine is healthy throughout the pregnancy.
