Setting Better Health Resolutions This Year
By Brandi Swieter
Poor health contributes to a lot of people's problems. They feel stressed, overworked, tired, and sick on a regular basis. Improving health should be the goal in the new year so many of these problems can disappear. Proper nutrition and exercise will go a long way in making people feel better overall. Setting better resolutions than just, "I want to lose weight," or "I'll eat healthier," is key in making sure they stick.
Losing X Pounds By Dieting and Exercising
Instead of saying you want to lose 20 pounds in the new year, say you'll lose 20 pounds by dieting and exercising. This will give you something more specific to focus on so you can achieve your goal. If 20 is too much, then start with 5 or 10 for a better fit for your needs. Never start out much higher than this because a goal that is too large can be hard to reach.
Being More Mindful of What I'm Eating
Grabbing any old snack off the shelf should be a habit of the past in 2019. Vow to be more mindful of what you're eating in the new year so you can improve your health through food. This can also pertain to the way you eat. Sit at the kitchen table to eat rather than eating on the couch with the TV on. Be sure to put down your fork or spoon after a few bites so you aren't just devouring the whole plate at once. Being mindful of what you're eating as well as how you're eating will help you realize just how much food is being consumed so you can start to eat less but eat nutritiously.
Turning Off the Devices an Hour Before Bed
You have to give yourself time to unwind before bed. Laying in bed at night with the light from your phone in your face can make it more difficult to fall asleep. Decide to turn off the phone and any other devices at least an hour before bedtime. Start a new routine instead so you can get a better night's rest that will improve your health overall.
The best health resolutions are specific and achievable. You don't want to start out with a goal of losing a large amount of weight or quitting smoking only to never come close to reaching it. Attainable resolutions for the new year are key in ensuring you can improve your health in a safe and beneficial way.
