Get Out Where the Sun Shines for Better Health
By Tom Herrin
No matter how serious people seem to get about maintaining and improving their health, it can take a constant effort. One obstacle may be that so many people spend much of their time indoors as they work, go to school, or do just about anything they do. It is wise to make a commitment to exercise and follow a good diet, but there are a few other things that may be done for those who are looking for something else. It can be as easy as packing a sleeping bag and hitting the trails. Camping may be a good way to boost health a little while adding some new experiences to your life.
It May Help to Get Better Sleep
Going without an adequate amount of sleep is pretty common. Far too many go through their day tired. As a result, there are more accidents and illnesses that are sometimes attributed to this problem. When people sleep outdoors, they often have a different kind of experience. According to a study from the University of Colorado, when people sleep outdoors, they tend to adjust to the sun's schedule. That is, they may wake up when the sun rises and retire near the time it sets. It is believed that spending more time in the sun helps to balance the level of melatonin.
It May Lessen Stress
Just about everyone deals with stress. They have it in plenty of places. Camping has been known to be a great way to reduce it. A University of Minnesota study concluded that even being in or around nature can help to reduce stress. Many people likely feel that relief when they are out camping, but this study verifies the fact that it may be a reality. Those who camp on a regular basis surely know it to be a fact.
It May Get People Going
There are times when all of us need something to prompt, or motivate, us to be active. When we camp, we have a natural inclination to observe things around us. This may lead us to walk more. We may also interact more within our group. This can help to strengthen our relationships. Most of us can stand more of this. Good relationships may make us see the world a little brighter and help us to be more willing to try new things. Our family enjoys camping whenever we get that chance.
