Most Common American Holistic Practices
By Alexis Mills
When incorporating holistic health practices into your life for health and wellness purposes, where to begin can be a bit daunting. But, it's great to know how many more people in America are incorporating yoga, meditation and chiropractic care as a way to achieve optimal wellness. A new report was released by Centers for Disease Control from the National Health Interview Survey that showed and compared adult practices from a 12-month period of 2012 and 2017.
While it is a great that people are on the rise of adopting holistic care, it's the goal to make it more accessible for everyone. As women were twice as likely than men to participate, it's important to reach more people and keep growing.
Yoga
It was noted in the report that yoga was most widely used by increasing from 9.5 to 14.3 percent in the five years from 2012 to 2017. It's not surprising how many people are getting involved in yoga because of how much relief it can bring physically and mentally to people. This Hindu origin practice focuses on breathing exercises, poses, and postures in order to achieve a balance of the mind, body, and spirit. Plus, while you are practicing yoga you are also strengthening your body!
Meditation
Through the report, it was found that meditation more than tripled from 4.1 to 14.2 percent. Just behind yoga usage, people are realizing the benefits of meditation such as reduced inflammation, stress, pain relief and improved cognitive function. Meditation is a mental exercise of achieving stillness of the body and mind to reach mindfulness and spiritual awareness. Like yoga, it centers around focusing on the breath, achieving a relaxed state, and reducing stress.
Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care it did not make as high of a jump, from 9.1 to 10.3 percent. Not as many new people are adopting chiropractic care, but it has just as many health benefits as yoga and meditation. What people need to realize is the importance of spinal health and how adopting chiropractic care into your life can enhance your wellness plus your yoga and meditation practice. As well, yoga and meditation can both be practiced without cost.
