Overweight and Chiropractic Care

By Randi Morse

I'm a big fan of focusing on health and not the number you'll see on the scale. There are healthy people of all sizes, from those who are extremely thin to those who have a bit more curves than the average person. I'm also not one to push dieting, especially when a lifestyle change is a much better option. That being said, there are times when it's healthy to lose a little bit of weight. This is especially true if you're on the cusp of being diagnosed with diabetes or if you've already received a diabetes diagnosis.

Obesity vs. Overweight

There's a big difference between being overweight and being obese. Obesity is calculated using the Body Mass Index (BMI) and is defined as having a BMI that is 30.0 or higher. Obesity has three classes:

  • Class 1 - A BMI between 30 and 35
  • Class 2 - A BMI between 35 and 40
  • Class 3 - A BMI higher than 40

Medically, people who are considered to be in the class 3 obesity range are considered to be struggling with severe obesity and are at a higher risk for health complications.

Problems Losing Weight

If you're trying to lose weight in order to improve your health, you may find yourself struggling. Losing weight is not easy, especially if you have a genetic code that makes you prone to weighing more. Chiropractic care might be able to help you with weight loss. The spinal column is the highway for the nerves, all the main nerves travel through the spine and into the brain. If you have a joint restriction, the messages that your body is sending to your brain may not be accurate. It may mean, for example, that your body is not getting the signals that you are full, causing you to continue eating after your body has received enough nutrients.

Regular chiropractic care may be the best option to help you in your weight loss journey. With visits to The Joint Chiropractic you can find the plan or package that's right for you to help you keep your body in healthy working order. You'll find affordable rates and walk-in options when you visit The Joint Chiropractic, so if you've been trying to lose weight and have found yourself struggling, give chiropractic care a try. It may be the exact thing you need to help kick-start your journey to better health.
