Natural Oils Shown To Promote Health

Americans hear a lot about eating less fat. We hear that eating it can lead to heart disease, cancer, or even stroke. But what people often do not realize is that there a lot of different types of fats out there – in fact, some are actually good for us! No, it’s not the fat they fry your onions in – it’s fat that comes from nature that helps keep our bodies functioning. Some of these fats may sound familiar, as they are often derived from foods we eat, such as nuts and fruits. Other ones, such as flax oil, may a bit unfamiliar.

You may have eaten almonds as a snack, or used almond extract in baking, but almond oil is a fabulously healthy oil that has benefits both internally and externally. When consumed in salad dressing or in almond butter, this oil can boost memory, strengthen the nervous system and may help aid in digestion. Used topically, almond oil leaves hair silky and shiny. It can also be used on the face to reduce dark circles and soothe dry skin.

Flax oil comes from the seeds of the plant Linum usiatissimum and has shown several different medicinal benefits. It is often used to treat conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes. Flax oil has also been shown to promote digestion regularity and weight loss. Its chemical makeup includes heavy amounts of alpha-linoleic acids, which has an anti-inflammatory effect. Many natural homeopaths recommend flax oil for conditions that cause swelling. Flax oil can be used topically or in cooking – try it in a yummy salad dressing for an extra health boost.

For an oil that is just as healthy as it tastes, coconut oil has been rising in popularity over the last few years. When used in cooking, it can used to make sweet entrees and desserts. As a hair or skin mask, it brings out impurities and leaves the body soft and smelling great. Coconut oil is considered a “super food” for its myriad of benefits, including promoting the immune system, lowering cholesterol levels and reducing depression and anxiety.
