Hut, Hut ... Hike Your Way to Good Health
By Donna Kostiew
I think most people will agree that we all spend too much time indoors watching TV, working on our computers, and playing with our cell phones (or texting on our phones while watching TV). The worst is when we are watching a documentary about nature on the TV while we are sitting on the couch and playing with our phones. Ugh! Let’s drop these bad habits and head outdoors for a hike in nature -- real-life nature -- together!
Hiking is a chance to explore the world around us and to experience the beauty of the outdoors without the use of any cell phone filter. And keep in mind that spontaneity and surprise are the golden rules when you set out on a hike. Want to go left on the trail this time? Sure! Want to hike the same trail over and over again? Go ahead, because even a trail that has been hiked many times before is sure to deliver a surprise or two. And how could it not? Nature always has a way of surprising us. What you don’t want to be surprised about though is body soreness or injuries. So, if you want to enjoy your outdoor time without the aches and pain, consider adding chiropractic care to your routine today.
Hiking Shouldn’t Hurt
Hiking is a great way to exercise because it is low-impact and you can control the intensity and length of the workout. But that doesn’t mean it is pain-free. Aches and pains can come from many different sources, but for hiking, they generally begin from two.
- New to your body - If you are new to hiking, the physical exertion that you place on your body may be challenging. Your back and joints may not be used to the work or, if you are carrying a backpack, the added stress.
- Existing spine issues – Been complaining of back or neck pain but haven’t gotten it checked out yet? You may have some joint restrictions which could be exacerbated while out on your hike.
How Chiropractic Care May Help
If staying active and enjoying the outdoors sounds good to you, chiropractic care is a great way to keep your body in optimal condition. Take a look at how it will help to keep you on those trails.
- Removes joint restrictions
- Keeps your spine properly aligned
- Relieves existing pain
- Prevents future injuries
- Increases range of motion and flexibility
- Boosts your immune system
Chiropractic care will keep your body in the best shape possible and will help eliminate those aches and pains you may be feeling, making all of your activities more enjoyable. It will improve your health, and in doing so, will encourage a more active lifestyle. What else needs to be said? Other than real-life nature will always beat out any kind of nature documentary on TV.
