Here are three nutrients that are good for your heart and how you can get them every day.
The B vitamins are very good for your heart, but of the vitamins in this family, the best is folic acid. Folic acid helps to prevent your artery walls from hardening and it also helps your blood vessels to stay elastic. It gets this done by lowering the levels of homocysteine in your blood, and amino acid. High levels of homocysteine have been associated with stroke and arterial hardening. Researchers have found that your risk for heart disease can drop significantly if you increase how much folic acid you get.
The best way to get folic acid is through green, leafy vegetables. Spinach and kale are winners, but you can find a healthy dose in asparagus, broccoli, and okra, too.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 fatty acids have been found to be really good for the human body, but especially the heart. It can help to lower blood pressure and also prevent heart disease. You have to eat omega-3 fatty acids in order to get them since your body can’t produce it on its own. Find it in fatty fish such as tuna, salmon, sardines, and mackerel, too.
Vitamin E is very easy to add to your diet for heart health and it happens to be good for your immune system as wel.! Vitamin E has been found to reduce your risk of heart attack, but you have to be careful because high doses of it can be harmful to you. Instead of using a supplement to get your Vitamin E, get it from natural sources such as seeds, nuts, eggs, spinach, certain fish, and avocado.
